Hey Chelsea, I think you should definitely call them to ask. And honestly I think it's fine if you yourself prefer to do an interview, especially if you are good at conversing with people in general. If you look at the link I posted previously, you'll see that they encourage self-initiated pieces, which you have, so yes it's very good!

Congrats to those who have received interview invitations! I got mine on Thursday as well :) My grade 11 average was 95 and grade 12 first semester was 93, with pretty good EC's. Does anyone know what to expect from the precis, because I honestly have no idea what it is haha

I got my interview invite on Thursday too :) I'm surprised at how high everyone's averages are, mine was around 87 in grade 11, and then dropped a little in grade 12... But I have a ton of EC's so that must be it. The precis is like, a really complicated piece of literature or writing that you have to translate to simple english, preserving all the main arguments, in 75 minutes. Right now I'm emailing them about the mail in portfolio, because I live over in BC and I don't know if I can fly over... Does anyone know if there are any disadvantages to not coming in for the interview? Do more students get accepted for going to the interview, or are both procedures equal? I feel like the interviewers might be biased if they get to know you in person so that's my worry... Carleton Architecture - ATTENDING Ryerson Architecture - accepted

Also, how many pieces do you guys have in your portfolios? Because I'm looking at about 25 but that seems like a lot more than others... Carleton Architecture - ATTENDING Ryerson Architecture - accepted

hey cassoo - i was at the waterloo open house and they actually seemed pretty proud of all the out-of-province student shtey get (they boasted some high percentage - can't remember) - so i actually think its a good thing for you :) my tour guide on the day was a guy from BC, so its not like they dont accept people just because they didnt come for an interview in person. i chose to go for my interview bc i like talking to people :) lol and its not like i have to fly in ;) i just have to drive three hours, so not really a big deal for me. * and thanks alexandrasiu :) WATERLOO ARCHITECTURE 2017

I'm pretty sure that you don't summarize the precis in "simple english" when you actually do it. I was under the assumption that the precis was a test of your ability to summarize a piece of literature completely; and that involves using some pretty advanced english...

I agree with Urnehpets, it's not necessarily translating the article into simple English. Rather, I believe it is an attempt to grasp the main ideas? You should still try to demonstrate your ability to write well. Maybe try googling what a precis is? That will probably help more.

That sucks dude, they must've messed something up bad. Wish I could give you mine, I'm pretty much ruling out the possibility of pursuing architecture after realizing that I'm probably not very artistically-inclined. Maybe I'll see you at Civil next year? University of Waterloo: Systems Design Engineering Class of 2017

@Urnehpets No I didn't, i emailed donna woolcott about it but she hasn't gotten back to me though... Not too sure what it is, it might've been my english mark as it was only at a 78 last year, but it's at an 81 this year but my interim report cards don't come out until tomorrow. But another one of my friends got turned down and his lowest top 6 mark was a 93... so I have no idea what's up with that... maybe it's because i'm from alberta? jelly wrote:That sucks dude, they must've messed something up bad. Probably Waterloo Civil right now, Architecture was appealing but it just doesn't seem like a good fit anymore. Not to mention, with the level of competition it'd be pretty ridiculous for me to be confident in getting admitted in the first place. University of Waterloo: Systems Design Engineering Class of 2017

krankd: AHHH so did you have an English mark submitted beforehand? Or only your grade 11 mark? Because they take your grade 11 marks into account if they did not receive your grade 12 marks at the time of sending out invitations. Sorry to hear that though, hopefully they'll reconsider.
and word, jelly. They're going to hand-pick 75 students out of the 500 that are being interviewed. Just the thought of that makes me tremble with fear.

Yeah I sent them my final grade 11 English mark, but it didn't meet the minimum mark of 80% (mine was 78). She said that they would not review any mark sent after March 7, even though i got my report card today and the English mark was 82 =[ I'm really hoping that McGill will accept me into their architecture now!
