This isn't exactly something that can be gauged so I'm not sure if anyone will be able to provide an answer to this. It isn't as though it is a statistic that is monitored across all universities, lol...

I do know, however, that Waterloo has a metal appreciation student club called UW Metal Mavens which currently has 67 members according to their Facebook page, haha. Definitely planning on getting involved with that when I get there.

I'm also curious about this, I'm a huge metal fan myself, I listen to different types of metal bands, ranging from Metallica and Iron Maiden to The Black Dahlia Murder and August Burns Red \m/

I like all my music to be on the extreme side, including my Rap, and Techno/Trance :P

Do you listen to Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying or In Flames? My favourite top three bands of all time.

I can actually play some As I Lay Dying on guitar, and of course I love In Flames, one of the most influential bands in Melodic Death Metal \m/

As for Lamb of God, one of the first heavier bands I started listening to!

To be completely honest, I'm surprised to find Metal listeners on this forum :P

I'm really happy that there are prospective Uni students that like the heavier side of today's music, as opposed to your typical stuff like Lil Wayne (Ewww)

Not going to lie, I'm pretty surprised myself. Not sure why I'm surprised. Perhaps I shouldn't be, but I can't help it...

Also, ew for Lil Wayne x2. Even though I have a soft spot for the music of this pop/rock/I-don't-know-what-to-class-her singer called Porcelain Black (who used to be known as Porcelain and the Tramps before she was signed to a major label, and actually put out more rock influenced stuff) whose catchiest song happens to feature him briefly... What can I say? I'm a pretty diverse chick.

As a young adult i can say that i'm disappointed in our generation's taste in music these days. I mean, how is it possible that someone like Nicki Minaj or Justin Beiber receive LIKE 70 MILLION FKING VIEWS with their so called "music" consisted of autotune, lyrics that make no sense nor applies to people and music videos so dumb that it kills brain cells... Whatever happened to artists making songs out of their experiences in life and writing pieces of music that takes countless hours of practice and brainstorming. Man, im just glad i discovered metal and rock, THANK GOD.

+1

I'm going to admit, there are times when I like having something mindlessly catchy in my head even if it is stupid. Definitely not something I could deal with on a constant basis. Metal and rock most definitely has my heart. Even so, despite admitting that there is a time and place for the crappy, mindless garbage, it is incredibly disappointing that the mind-numbing slop can be considered music at all. I'd probably create a whole new word for it so it was entirely out of the category of music. That way the integrity of the word wouldn't be lost, but there was still that other stuff available for the appropriate moment. I don't know, guys... It is somewhat depressing that music that consists solely of Lady Gaga-esque 'ram am ah' is so wildly popular.

As it should, to be honest. There is very little outside the realms of metal and rock that I can tolerate. I maybe more diverse than some, but even in more pop -- or even rap -- influenced music, I need to see some elements of real music in there. I consider a perfect example to be Hollywood Undead. They have this rap thing going on, but they still incorporate some legitimate guitar and heavy drums in there. And though they have some meaningless party songs, they also have (surprise, surprise!) songs with real lyrics, depth, meaning, and emotion in them. Oh, and of course the occasional -- not to mention totally needed -- metal growl.

Haha, woo!

Well, since I seem to have uncovered two kindred spirits on here -- which has utterly shocked me, by the way -- it'd be nice to see if we all have anything else in common...

Top five favourite bands?

Attending Warped this year? (And yes, I know Warped isn't exactly 'metal,' but they've diversified the last few years to include a fair handful of metal acts.)

Either of you gamers?

I don't know, that is all I can think of right now, lol...

I'm going to Warped Tour this year most likely!

As well as Summer Slaughter \m/

I used to be quite the gamer until last year my Xbox 360 got red rings :(

In terms of top 5 bands, ahhhh...

I'm pretty all over the place and can't manage to decide but I'd have to probably say:

The Black Dahlia Murder
Necrophagist
Point Below Zero
Make Them Suffer
Parkway Drive

My list honestly varies depending on the day and such :P

I have a ton of "Liked" bands on Facebook which are probably a much better display of what I listen to.

How about yourself?
