I'm in grade 11, I attend a non-semestered school and we have this program called, "SHSM" which basically means: Specialist High Skills Major. My school's SHSM chose to specialize its students for healthcare, and to acquire the certificates, we have to do co-op either in the summer or during the school year that involves around healthcare. I'm not really sure what I want to be and I've attended all the activities offered so far and skipped one called, WHMS because I wanted to stop attending and quit the program.

However, from reading another user's post about co-op, I realize co-op could help me write something for my application for university? My plan since the beginning of the year was to summer school grade 12 Physics so that I can lighten my weight for grade 12. The courses I'm taking for grade 12 are: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, World Religions (mandatory), and Instrumental Music. The problem is that if I take co-op during the school year, it will really bring me down with the courses I'm taking, and from my friends who took co-op during this school year, they're behind in their work. Anyway, any tips and advices? I'm still confused with what to do in life but the programs I'm interested in applying and attending are McMaster's Life Science/Health Science (if I can even achieve such a high average, pfft >_<"), Ryerson's Nursing program/Chemistry program, and University of Toronto's Chemical Engineering/Chemistry program.

So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor and catch the trade winds in your sails.

You have all those courses to take, if you take coop (which is 2 courses) then you won't have room for all of them.. unless you plan to do summer school. Here's the thing about the HS coop system: you work about 4 hours a day everyday, you may or may not be doing interesting things at your workplace (so do you really want to take that risk?). I agree that it would be a great opportunity, but you're losing out on your normal school experience. I don't think it's worth it, you can get part time jobs in the summer and not influence your school scheduling, OR you can participate in many programs for prospective healthsci /chemeng/ etc. students, which would be just as much of a plus as a HS coop job. OR you can volunteer at a hospital or some other health related place.

just my 2 cents..
