I know, this topic has been posted in this forum a million times now, but I'm really wondering if I could get any chance of getting into mcmaster's life sci with an average of just 83.8333.

These are my top 6 marks
history: 92
religion: 95
english: 85
bio: 85
chem: 73
ad. func: 70

they all add up to 83.8.

In addition, i'm really confused about mcmaster's programs. Did I apply for Life Sciences which has a prereq of either calculus or functions? Or did I apply to Molecular Biology and Genetics which has a prereq of calculus.

I really do not want to use my calculus mark from this midterm which is a 50 flat.

PLEASE HELP!
University of Toronto (Immunology) - pending
University of Toronto (Materials Science) - pending
University of Guelph (Molecular Bio) - OFFER ISSUED

The cut-off can't be 89! LJustin, on this thread http://www.studentawards...sts&t=11331&p=2 stated that an 88 got admission into 2012 Mac LifeSci.

Surely can't be 89, when Health Sci cutoff is 90! XD

Sourcing McMaster site here: http://www.science.mcmas...ive/151-life-sciences-1

If however you do find the source where it said that cutoff this year is 89, please link it here :D

see the 4th post. The same person mentioned on another post he/she also went there personally to ask the question ....I'm just going based on what is being said here.

If you read last year's post or the old forum, you will read some people getting in with 86 and some not getting in with 87. I think (just my opinion), there may be cut off rules for different provinces. Just my guess. I think there are other admission criteria that we may not know besides just making the cut off. My 1st term mark is 87 (non semesterd school) and based on last year's forum (by this time), I should have got in into Western or Guelph Biomed and yet non has given me an offer to the program I applied. It could also depend on your ranking. If you have 88 and ranked Mac as your 1st choice and somebody with 89 ranked it last, I think (again my opinion) they would give it to someone with 88 and not neccesarily to someone with 89. Just my opinion.....

My thoughts exactly.

I get the feeling that the university probably puts more emphasis on certain marks.

I have not heard that ranking affects Mac's decision (I thought universities were supposed to tell us if ranking affects it).

And this closes the case. If anyone asks what the cutoff is, refer him/her to this.

Isn't that the average you need to MAINTAIN once you are granted admission? Mac's cut off IS AN 89%. YES, I talked to the counselors. You need an 89% to be admitted, but once you are admitted, you are required to maintain an 84-85% to retain your acceptance.

Some people are given admissions slightly below the average based on their unique circumstances (which is why some people got in lower). But for the average person, you need an 89%.

And yes, it is a reasonable average for whoever asked about Health Sci being a 90% average. That 90% is the ESTIMATED MINIMUM, not the flat out average. It could be anywhere from a 90%-93%, depending on the amount of competition and their averages overall.

Alrighty man, the "cut-off" is 89%. I don't want to argue anymore/let's just wait and see, and hope for the best.

But let me define what "cut-off" means. Cutoff is average of the lowest marks people get into the program with.... 89% could be the admission average.

But w/e, I don't want to argue...

89% IT FREAKING IS.

Oh, and by the way, what do you mean by special circumstances? Mac Life Sci does not have a supplementary application, where you can tell them about your circumstances... Just saying..

Mac has a special considerations profile for all their programs, but only if you ask for it. I had to call admissions to get the email of the person I was supposed to send it to. But I don't know if they allow you to have one for ArtSci or Health Sci since they already have EC's.

If that's true then that's unfortunate for a lot of people. Health Science admission average is 90% exactly, though. Once a student reaches or exceeds the 90%, it's all about the score on the supplementary. The 90% is just designed to get the cream of the crop, I believe.

Mac's cut off avg is 88-89%
the 85% is the mark u need to maintain. Mac is taking the risk to get someone with less than the requirements! So the cut off is not 85 !

Even though it says 90%, but depends on how many ppl apply and their avg of it. The cut off rises every year, just like life sci. But yea, supplementary plays a big role
And btw, same program as you in mac :)

Just wondering, why do you think the cut off is 88-89% and not just the 89% as a previous poster stated? Who did you speak to in order to confirm this?

Hey guys. I emailed mac earlier in april and they told me that the CURRENT cutoff for life sciences is 89. however they're waiting on second semester midterms to see if it will get lowered. I personally think it will drop 1-2% by the last round of admissions in late may, considerig the fact that health sci ppl will reject their life sci offers and obviously those 95 %+ students are no longer driving admission crazy high..
