My grade 9 and 11 Phys ed./Health teacher Mr. Andrews, for pushing me as an athlete and believing I have potential. It helped me to realize I don't have to be the worlds greatest to be an athlete, as long as I try. There were so many times I just wanted to give up before because I thought I'd be a failure if I wasn't a champion. Now I believe, trying my hardest and having heart is what makes me a "fighter" in MMA and life instead of being the biggest, fastest or strongest in a male dominated world. Thank-you Mr. Andrews

Mrs. Ellis was both my grade 10 and grade 12 English teacher. She taught me more than any other teacher I've ever met. It could have started as English and stayed at English, but she went on to teach me about life as well. She showed me that anyone can do what they want to do, that I was good enough to be cared about, and that the things that I did and cared about mattered all the while encouraging me to believe it although it was hard for me. Mrs. Ellis was there for me as a friend and leader, not just as a teacher.
Things were really hard for me in December of this year, having attempted suicide. I came back to school and was having a lot of trouble attending class because I just couldn't get out of bed. But I had her class first period every morning. Instead of being like any other teacher would have been, she understood what I was going through even though she hasn't been there. She was there for me to talk to, and gave me a place to put those feelings that was more constructive than hurting myself. Mrs. Ellis effectively helps to keep me going every day.
I haven't just learned from Mrs. Ellis about english and how to properly use a comma. I've learned about life, about perseverance, about strength, and most of all I've learned to always keep going no matter what happens. If anyone deserves a thank you, it's her.
Thank you, Mrs. Ellis.

I would like to thank Ms. Gauthier, the music teacher. She's awesome! We always have fun in class and in band. She seems strict to most because she expects you to do the work and try hard, and does not give out special treatment. But she is also very nice, like will take the band to Wendy's after KIWANIS and buy food for people who did not bring money. She holds band parties at her house where we do things like make gingerbread houses and watch movies. We even tye died T-shirts once! Being in band was one of my most favourite things in high school. Thank you.

I have a couple of fantastic professors that helped me get back on track this year. I've been at UNBF (University of New Brunswick, Fredericton)for 3 years now. I've been struggling through a science degree and my first year was just terrible and the following years just a tad better. I've been exploring my options and went to talk to several professors about my future and where to go with my degree.
First is Dr. Reeves, she is a great first year chemistry professor and academic adviser. My first year experience may have been horrible but her as a professor was the one who stood out. She truly cares about her students progress and does everything she can to make your experience a good one, and a successful one. She is more than willing to help you on her own time. I have never had a more kind professor.
Second is Dr. Newling, a physics professor. I know many, myself included, have troubles with physics but if you get Newling as a professor your experience is great. He makes physics interesting and fun. His examples and in class activities help us understand how physics works and how it applies to everyday life. Sitting down and talking to him about physics has really opened my eyes. As much as I have troubles with physics he really showed me how much I truly enjoy it, and how to get through it and make it easier on myself!
Sending out a big thank you to Dr. Reeves and Dr. Newling for both showing me that some professors actually care about their student's achievements and not just their pay checks. As well as helping me determine how to enjoy my classes and succeed.

I would like to thank my Physics teacher, Mr. Lacarte. He was someone I could talk to in a non teacher-student way. I spent most of my time made at him, but he didn't mind. I don't think. And he always appreciated everything I did. It's hard to put how much that matters into words. Thanks

I want to thank all my teachers at the alternative school, the School of Experiential Education, that were there during my first year, grade nine, in high school. That includes, Rita Pieninniemi, Karl Calhoun, Stefanie Hall, Glenn Novak and Ashley Fullbrook. The support of these teachers helped me through a tough transition into high school and actually taught me things that I felt I would not have grasped otherwise. I appreciate them greatly and will never forget them because of the changes they helped me make in my life. These teachers were and are very important to me and I will miss them when I graduate. I am so grateful for the open ears they have and their helpfulness in my life academically and personally. I am thankful for their praise and generosity and appreciate the dedication they have to their students and the love they hold for their work. I have endless gratitude for these teachers. Thank you so much! -Melody **Shields** Accepted: University of Toronto: Social Sciences + Vic One (Pearson Stream) Carleton University: Honours Science University of British Columbia: Arts

I would like to say thank you to Ed Zinger,
He has been my wrestling coach for 4 seasons now and I am currently his co-op student. He has helped me grow as an athlete and step up to my potential as a person. He has encouraged me to get involved with leadership roles such as running the warm ups in practice, helping out at the elementary school practices as well as refereeing. He also has taught me important knowledge in regards to working with students with disabilities and how to modify activities in the gym to suit everyone in the class. And for that I would like to say thank you!

I'd like to thank my music teacher at Abbotsford Collegiate Secondary, Ms. Hasiuk. She has given me so many opportunities in the last four years to help teach middle school band, to get involved in leadership within the music program, and to improve my playing skills. (Along with learning three or four new instruments just for band!) I'd also like to thank all of my IB teachers in the last two years who have taught me to always do my best at everything, and they have totally prepped me for university!

To my coach, Jock, who has been with our team through the ups and downs.
After enduring early morning practices, cold days skating on frozen ponds, and long road trips with my team, you have been such a big part in the experience that has made me proud to call myself a hockey player. When I look back on the good times we had, it is not the standard winning overtime goal or heart breaking loss that I recall most clearly. Many of the defining moments of my experience have happened off the ice. You have helped me understand that the best way to help someone is through encouragement and positive feedback. With a team made up of teenage girls, drama is inevitable. Thank you for helping us work through our problems. I now know that resolutions are made through open and honest communication. I have also learned that scapegoats are unnecessary; there is no point in blaming individuals for the challenges the team faces. The team must come first before personal glory. I credit the insight I have today to my coach, mentor, and friend.
Thank you.

I would like to say a great big thanks to Mr.Garner, my history teacher for 4 years during high school. Mr.Garner helped me learn and understand history in a way that I never was able to before. He made me appreciate the subject so much that I myself am planning to major in history and become a teacher like him. While not only being a great teacher, Mr.Garner is also a great track and field coach as he has helped me to develop my javeline throwing technique. Thank you to the best teacher in the world!

The one teacher that has helped me the most would be Mrs. Costello, my debate coach and American History teacher at Iona Catholic Secondary School. She is an amazing and inspiring individual and a fantastic teacher. She cares about her students and makes her subject interesting, because she is so interested in and passionate about what she teaches! Her classes draw on student's creativity and trusts their ability to think for themselves. As the teacher in charge of the debate team, she has been wonderfully supportive, and has taught us all something about being professional and to be good at what we do. Mrs. Costello has helped me by always having a kind word and a smile. I know that I can go to her for help, and that I can trust her. Thank you!

To my First Class Educator Kristi kennedy at Humber College. I would like to say thankyou for being such a wonderful and enjoyable teacher. My second semester at humber wouldn't have been as enjoyable if you weren't a teacher there. I gained a lot of knowledge invloving my major in Fashion arts and I learned that school doesn't have to be all textbook and readings, it can be a great experience and I have kristi to thank for that! With her amazing personality and her great teahing methods;she deserves a big thankyou from me! Thank you for making my college experience great !

I would like to thank the best teacher I have ever had. Yes, this sounds horribly cheesy, but it is so true. My teacher, Mrs. Fuerderer has been like a second mother to me since the day I started grade 10. I have been her student for 3 years now and it has been such a pleasure. She ALWAYS takes an interest in me and the rest of her students. She likes to keep updated on our personal lives and she is always there when I need a hug. Throughout the past few months, I have been applying and hearing back from universities and she has been with me every step of the way to congratulate me on acceptances and talk over the troubles I am having when it comes to deciding where to go. I can honestly say that Mrs. F is the greatest, most loving teacher in the world.

I would like to give a big, big thank you to my professor and program adviser, Claire Huot (University of Calgary).
I recently decided to double major in Chinese and this past year, I was constantly wondering if it was in fact the right choice for me. However, this past semester, I had a chance to take a class with Professor Huot and through her encouragement and help, I finally was at peace with my decision. Yes, I may not be the best at this major but if it is something I truly enjoy and it is something I want to pursue, then my worries are for naught. She taught me this important lesson. Without her as my teacher and adviser, I am sure I would have switched majors (again!) before the school year wrapped up.
So, thank you, thank you and thank you many times over.

I would like to say thank you to my honours seminar teacher Kathleen Hughes at Carleton U. Currently a PhD student, Kathleen has taught me the importance of hard work and honesty between students and teachers. She treated her class as individuals and not students. She had high expectations and prepared me for my thesis next year. She has also strengthened my interest in education! Thanks Kathleen!

This question is particularly hard for me to answer because not one of my teachers stand out to me. I would however like to thank my guidance counsellor. She is the one who got me out of my shell because I am a very quiet person. She is the wellness club leader at my school and I am a part of this club. In this club we plan fundraisers and just plain old fun days for the school to enjoy. My guidance counsellor does not get enough credit for what she does. In fact I think she has the hardest job at the school because she has to listen to a lot of people's problems. She is a very good listener and is easy to get along with. I am thanking her for always being there for me and listening to my problems. Telling her personal details is not awkward because I feel that she actually cares about what I am saying. Without her high school would not have been the same. I would like to take this oppourtunity to thank her for all that she does. So thank you.

I want to say thank you to Mr. Huo my Teacher Advisor for always pushing me to do my best even when I didn't want to. I couldn't have gotten the marks I did this year without you. You made me do the work and it really paid off.
