You have decided not to attend prom for your own reasons, it's unfair to expect your friends to do the same just for your sake. It's an important event to a lot of people, and if they would like to go, you should support them. It doesn't mean they're not a true friend. They have offered a number of things to try to make you feel better (a special dinner, spending time with you at the prom, etc.). I am sure living with a hearing disability is very difficult, and the truth is your friends will probably never understand what it's like, as much as you would like them to. You need to accept that or your friendship won't last.

Guys just go. It's not that big of a deal, and you'll regret not going when you a little bit older and are a little bit less ashamed of yourselves.

I am not ashamed of myself yet and likely won't be. Some people who are like me just do not think prom is fun nor important. I was not willing to pay $65 for a ticket and more for clothes to go to a so-so event.

My group of friends had a poker+gaming+bbq party instead of going to prom, so I went to the party instead of going to prom. I don't really feel that miserable missing prom because my friends didn't go, but if they went I would go for sure cause I feel like I missed out on an incredible experience. I didn't think my prom was very memorable, to be honest. To be fair, I don't remember the after-prom either, but of course that was for completely different reasons :P . YSDN York/Sheridan Bachelor of Design Honours Program 2016

I've skipped two proms, grade 12 and 13. Why go to a party where you will do nothing but sit outside and avoid the loud music and pulsating lights? I can't stand modern 'party' music, and strobes make me feel ill. The first year, I didn't know the people winning awards, and the second year, I didn't know anybody at all. It just seemed like a waste of time and money. St. Francis Xavier - Humanities Colloquium
