I'm posting this for my good friend, who is very conflicted between attending Ryerson University and York University to pursue early childhood education. I truthfully have no knowledge or interest in these programs, but I offered to help her out by asking someone from the great studentawards.com forum here to lend some advice. Any responses at all, ASAP, are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Truthfully speaking, attending either of those institutions is only a good idea if your friend intends to continue in the world of academia (e.g. get a B.Ed). Otherwise, a college diploma from Humber will get you just as much credibility as the university program.

Based solely on hearsay, I'd say that the Ryerson ECE program is more developed than the one at York, so I'd say go to Ryerson if those are the two options.

While truthfully I don't know a whole lot about either program, I would encourage your friend to take a look at the courses she would have to take at both schools. York has many degree requirements (for instance, all students must take one science course) where as Ryerson tends to be more flexible about what kind of electives you take. But even within the requirements York has, there is plenty of flexibility, with courses like "Science of Colour" and things like that. Your friend should also consider the kind of school she wants. While Ryerson is big, York is HUGE. And one is downtown, while the other is closer to suburbia. Which would be a shorter commute (or which res options are better)? As for the programs themselves, Ryerson's has been around for longer, but that is not to say one is better than the other.

My best advice to your friend would be to research the specifics of what each program requires her to take and go from there.
