I asked UBC today, and this is what they replied:
"UBC does not use waitlists when admitting into programs. You will either be admitted, refused, or you are still pending a decision. If you are admitted into your first choice we will not automatically evaluate your second choice unless you have arranged otherwise."
They said I'm not waitlisted and they are still evaluating my application, but I think it's basically the same as waitlisted...
