What are the pros/cons/reviews between
Marchand, Stanton,Leblanc,Thompson
and
Hyman-Soloway,Brooks

I'd like something a bit quiet. For my second choice, should i put Brooks (people have told me not to go there without an explanation),Hyman-Soloway (is quite far away from the other residences), or Marchand (i've heard that the conventional rooms are quite small and can be quite loud)? As well, what are some reviews from each of the above residences (as in, " don't apply to --- because ---- ","---- is the best because ----",etc.)

My top picks are:
1) 90U
2) Hyman-Soloway/Brooks/Marchand (These are the main three which i need help deciding; any reviews for these three/ pros&cons would be much appreciated!)

Thank you so much !

I'd like to hear about this too!
My residence choice was based on how close it is to the classes I would be placed in.
1.Thompson
2.Stanton
Does anyone have experience/opinion about these residences as well?

Don't base your choices on proximity since every residence is fairly close to everything. I can only speak for 90u, Brooks, Stanton, and Marchand.

90u is often seen as the best residence. The pros are that it is the nicest and best maintained. You have your own bathroom (shared with a roommate) and a lot of privacy since the rooms are separated. They have a cleaner who comes once a week, which is a big plus. The cons are that it's fairly expensive, there's no oven in your room, and the people who work at the front desk can turn into people who have gone mad with power. Overall, I give it an 8.5/10.

Brooks is the most open residence. You room with a total of 2-4 people. The pros are that it is very open and has a full kitchen. If you have good roommates, this can easily be the best residence. The cons are that it can often get quite messy. If you have bad roommates, you may not have the best time. Also, the lease is 12-months rather than 8-months so you may be forced to sublet in the summer. Overall, I give it an 8/10.

Stanton and Marchand are very similar with one another. The pros are that it is seen as a more classic residence. What I mean by that is that it really resembles what you see in those American college movies. The pros are that there's a lot of social interactions seeing as how both bathrooms and kitchens are shared. The cons are that you often don't have too much privacy unless you get a single room, which is more expensive. Also as mentioned, the bathrooms/showers and kitchens are shared, which can be a pain. Overall, I give it a 7.5/10.

Feel free to pm me any questions. Fair warning, I don't check Student Awards all that often but I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

P.S: I currently live in 90u.

I did visit their residence during March Break. My top choice was 90U too and my other choices were Stanton,Marchand and Thompson all single rooms.

90U- is the best but I hear it is very difficult to get in. If you haven't send in your deposit yet, then good luck in getting in. You are allowed to have hot plates in the common area of the suite and you also get a double bed.

Stanton is joined with Marchand and 90U and does not have laundry facilty in their building. So you go to 90u to do your laundry. I think at Marchand the elevator stops at every other floor. I found the single rooms small or it could have just been the room I visited. You can also have a fridge in the room. The double rooms actually looked bigger but in fact it's exactly twice the size of the single room. It basically comes down to how you arrange your furnitures in the room. This particular double room had both the beds side by side so that kinda made the room look bigger with more space. Eventhough you are sharing the bathroom with 10 other people on your floor (same gender bathroom), I was told that it is never an issue.

There is a big common kitchen with ovens where you can come and cook that is shared by these 3 residence.

Did not visit Thompson, but did see the building about 2 mins from 90U and others. Closest to the library. I found all these residences are pretty close to the Science, Arts building.

Hyman-Soloway and Brooks -you need to sign a one year lease

That seems to be all that I remember from my tour.

Do you think the preparatory course is worth it? I'm not sure if I should sign up for both and live in Ottawa (have close family around there) for a week or just skip it altogether :/

I think it's worth it but the last day of the session is 31st and likely we will be moving in on the 1st when I called to enquire. Too much of a hassle. I will stick to the online option.

Actually I didn't apply for 90U. I think I put Thompson as my first choice.
