I read that a few of you have received confirmation of your OSAP funding.
My web application was received May 2 and my MSFAA received May 28 and my application "is still being processed" . The reason given is "verification of student income".
It says to check back at end of July. We are now heading into the 2nd week of August and still no confirmation.
Anyone else still waiting?
Any advice from those of you who have been through this as to whether I should continue to be patient or maybe call?
Thanks

Read this thread. It's been discussed several times.

I called financial aid at my school and they gave me this info:
Apparently once a school receives their Ministry Cost Code approval that is when the aid is confirmed for everyone at that University/College that has applied on time. My school is expected to receive the cost code in mid August, some schools get it earlier.

Hopefully this might help others who have had the same question.

Army your comments of late are not very helpful and if you are so jaded then perhaps you should refrain from givimg useless advice.

Army's comments are rarely helpful, mostly mean and abusive.

Guys help!

I wrote on the OSAP application that I was getting paid $3500 from my job (February - August), and it turned out that I actually earned more than my estimate - I earned about $1500 more!

How do i report this to OSAP? My school starts in September (Fall), so should I tell them then? Or should I call them ASAP?

How much do you think theyd deduct from my fundings? :(

I'm going into first year social sciences at uwo, and my parents aren't contributing to my education. they want me to a: learn financial independence and b: understand how much effort is needed to do post-secondary education. However, my mom recently got a settlement from a wrongful dismissal suit that took three years to finish which left us in alot of debt, but all the money she won went to my parents separation. but the way the taxes play out makes it sound like we're ridiculously wealthy. which now we have nothing left over from the settlement, and are now relying on a single income. I used the estimate after applying and told me $0. I am working ridiculous amounts of hours trying to scrape enough for my first installment along with my rent. what can I do to show OSAP that I need assistance??

There is a form on the osap site that allows you to use your parents estimated 2012 income as oppose to 2011 income reported to CRA. Will definitely give OSAP a better indication of your parents real income.

is it too late to apply for osap and if i am 2nd year and i got osap 1st year, am i signing up for osap as a full time or returning student on osap site?

If you wanted OSAP in September then yes, you're too late. However you have until January to apply so you have plenty of time.

When was the deadline? I can only apply for the january - april term now? I wanted OSAP from sept 2012 - april 2013

Also am I considered a full time student or a returning student if I am going into 2nd year and I had OSAP 1st year?

The deadline was June 6 if you wanted to pick up your OSAP in September/October. Learn to read.

If you apply now you probably won't get your OSAP funding until the winter, but yes, you could get funding for the September - December semester.

Returning student and full-time student are two different things.

Call them ASAP. They'll probably reduce your funding by around $1500...

Of course it's possible. Perhaps your brother is doing a different program, got a different scholarship, filed his application differently, etc.

I know, I wouldn't have asked otherwise, but our tuition differs by only 500 dollars, and he's at western while im at waterloo... but to differ by almost 10K? could it be that I'm supposed to be a coop student starting next year? :( Thanks for replying, I'm just really worried how much it won't cover...

Might have something to do with where your family lives? If you live within a certain distance of your university, OSAP will assume you're living at home and then won't give you as much money

Damn, just received a letter from CRA that says they increased my dad's 2011 RRSP deduction, which results in a $270 drop in his net income...Exclamation (From 299xx to 296xx I don't remember the exact numbers lol) OSAP has already received my parents' consent pages, so if I were to tell my school about this would it cause a significant delay on my funding? And how much of an impact will this change make?
And yes, life is unfair, get over it.

Net income dropping is good news though I don't think it will affect your funding in anyway cause you are likely getting max OSAP . You can just e mail your school financial aid office with the new info. There shouldn't be any delay.

Same boat here . On the OSAP site it says that to get the 2nd instalment , you have to confirm your income and the ministry will give you the confirmation of income webpage when it's available.

I also called the school to ask and their response is to just e mail them and let them know now ,if possible , the additional income and if you are not sure than wait till end of August once you final pay stub comes to confirm it. Funding may or may not go down a bit but not significantly because OSAP does expect you to work full time in the summer though it is not known how much they expect us to make.

I'm in a weird situation.

My parents are divorced. I'm living with my mother in my grandparents' (her side) house. My mother hasn't had any income for years except interest on savings and child support, which is how we've been getting by. She didn't file her 2011 tax return, largely due to lack of knowledge and bad past experiences. I didn't know anything about it until recently.

I have a few questions:

1. Is my mother's situation going to hurt my chances of getting OSAP?

2. If I sent in my OSAP application in late July, does that mean that if I do get it, I won't get it until October at best?

3. If this means I can't get OSAP, what can I do to change that?

Yes. Your family can't be criminals if you expect to receive government funding.

At least November or December.

Try to get a bank loan or maybe a job cheers

Our income is below the $3500 threshold, so her accountant said it wasn't necessary. I dunno, neither of us knows much about this stuff. -_-

Ouch, okay. Won't make that mistake again next year.

Well thanks, but I meant something that would let me get OSAP. :P

Your mom probably need to fire her accountant. Even if her income is zero , she should still file it in order to get GST refunds /Ontario tax credit refund and if there are any other younger siblings then she is entitled to get Child tax benefit.

Anyway, it's not too late for her to do her tax return. Should be able to get confirmation from Canadian revenue agency within a month and then you can apply for OSAP. In the mean time, I think you can ask your fees to be deferred but they will definitely charge you interest since you won't be in the OSAP system yet before the schools starts.

If you can't get OSAP then you can't get OSAP. Don't try to commit fraud.

I got my acceptance from university of toronto last week and I applied for OSAP today. I tried deferring the fee but it says "Your Tuition Fee Deferral request cannot be processed as there is no confirmationthat you have qualified for government financial assistance or UofT graduate funding,"

does anyone know when the university will get the confirmation? The payment is due on August 17, and by August 30 they will remove people from courses who haven't paid :(

There is no way you will get confirmation by August 17th. I'm not sure what the timeline will be but it will be weeks.
