So I was in the business section reading about Schulich early acceptances and people mentioned that if applicants with averages around 90-93 usually get in and those with 93+ are almost guaranteed.

I personally have a 91 average and fair EC's (nothing spectacular but I do like to get involved) but I never even considered Schulich (or Ivey) because I didn't consider myself academically or EC-wise good enough for them.

Does anyone else have the same problem as I do, thinking you aren't smart enough for a certain program or university? I'm not sure if this is a confidence thing since I usually don't have self-esteem issues.
How smart would you consider yourself in your school? Do you fear for the competition next year?

Honestly, As we are nearing the end, I have changed my view on things. High school does not or is not a valid representation of an individual's intelligence. Seriously, I have noticed that the only thing you need to get 95s is to put in the TIME.

I am "smart" but not a genius. So like 84-87% average over the years. I am smart in science classes. But again, what does that really mean? I am good at memorizing pages of info and writting it on a piece of paper?...really...bounce

I find that I am way more confident of my ability to be involved in EC than I am in actual school work, I spend way more time on ECs than course work

From what I see in the Grade 12's on student awards, this forum has a similar atmosphere to what university will be like. We're all quite "smart", doing well in school and getting good marks. However, you throw all those smart people into one program and grade their intellectual performance on the same 0-100 scale from years past, some are bound to feel overwhelmed by self-doubt or competition. I guess you just have to push the "am I smart enough?" doubts from your mind. The simple fact that you're even asking that question is probably an indicator that you'll be fine; If I was to venture a guess, I'd say that those who'll have the biggest issues adjusting to university work will be the ones who go in so wholly assured of their own intelligence.

Its not how smart you think you are. Or for that matter how intelligent you think you need to be. Its doing what you want to do in your life that makes the choices you make right.

I'm already in university and it's totally different from high school. I graduated high school as #1 in my school board district (so compared to couple thousand other class of 2008 graduates) but here, I'm not even in the top 10 in the class of 2012 of my program (~160 people), never mind my program overall, or the faculty overall, or the school. There will always be people smarter than you in university but it doesn't make you any less smart.

I am probably the top academic student at my school. People think I'm really smart, but I've always told them that it is a matter of work habit and attitude.

I very much believe that there are multiple people who would do better than me if they just TRIED. How some people squander their intellect makes me slightly want to go all spiderman on their lazy butts.

I am not quite at peace with the fact that I won't be top in uni, so my plan is just to work hard, like normal, and define myself in more ways than just marks. Ultimate Frisbee team, here I come! cheers

This is the reason why some people don't do as well as they think they will in university. "Oh, I am smart in highschool but in university I won't be the smartest".

Someone has to be the smartest. If you believe in your abilities and put the effort in to be the best, you can get there. I am not saying it will come easily, or come at all, but if you don't think you can be the best you won't.
