^ We haven't created one since our prom is at the end of June, but we do have one. Don't want a disaster like last year. 2 girls got the same dress. If it weren't for that group, they would have worn the same dress to prom. University of British Columbia '15 Bachelor of Science Major in Biology

I guess some girls just get so hyped up about prom being 'perfect' that they feel perfect and don't want anyone to look better in the same dress? I'm not saying everyone is like that, but I don't know really what else to say. If someone is wearing the same thing as you some people start to compare? ;/ No idea. xD Carleton University: Mathematics Accepted University of Western Ontario: Science Accepted Queen's University: Science ACCEPTED University of Toronto: Mathematical & Physical Sciences Accepted

^ Yeah pretty much. It would suck to show up with the same dress. Every girl wants to feel amazing in her own dress, not be compared to someone else. University of British Columbia '15 Bachelor of Science Major in Biology

^ You bet :) I might be attending 2 proms actually. I just moved schools last year.. so I may be going to prom with my old school as well as my new school. I actually don't have a dress picked out.. I have one in mind, but haven't looked/bought it. I saw it online. I want something like.. princessy.. I want one of those poofy.. but not TOO poofy dresses.. kind of like a wedding dress, but not white obviously.. but not quite as poofy as a wedding dress. Hard to explain! How about yourself? I enjoy this post... it's kinda amusing. Because the people on this forum are obviously the strong students in high school right now right? You're the ones with the 90+ averages and are getting into these intense schools with insane scholarships. But here's a topic about something within school but not academic related and most of the posts here are like "not going" or "it's way to hyped up, it's actually no fun" ,etc.
Soooo what I'm getting at is that you guys are crazy smart and good for you, that is definitely something to be proud of, but this type of stuff is not for the majority of you guys. And I'm finding this amusing because in a regular grade 12 class, most would be excited about prom but most marks aren't going to be as high as it is here. Stereotypical... possibly, but there's definitely lots of truth behind it.
I'm not sure if you guys follow me, it's probably pretty confusing, but I thought I'd share my thoughts.
Oh but for me - I'm kinda excited about prom. I got my press a few weeks ago since we were in the States then. But since I switched schools just last year, I don't have the same friends, but hopefully I'll get to go to prom with them too at their schools. Yay! :)

@Alika: It's because we're smart enough to see through it. Of course, I'm very well sure it's a fun event and one of your last times together with your class, but it's become this massive event and horribly over-hyped. People, especially the females, spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on this one moment, go to all these strenuous, stressing, efforts to make it 'perfect', and I can't stand by that. People ask me why I don't care about prom, and I ask them why it's important to them. "Because it's prom, you're supposed to be excited about it, you're graduating." And that's really a terrible answer. I would appreciate if someone presented me with a genuine, thought-out answer regarding the importance of prom, and the importance of the hype. However, this isn't just an anti-prom rant, more of a rant against the prom mindset, because I would go, if I had a reason. McMaster 2015 Bachelor of Health Science

prom, with all it's accouterments, is just a really big party. it stands to reason that if you don't like to party/dress up/overindulge in alcohol (not in that order), than it's not for you, it doesn't really seem like it should be a mystery as to why people don't want to go. I'm not overly excited about it. It just seems like such a waste of money, for one thing. Dresses are expensive and I'd much rather save the couple of hundred dollars to spend on something i'll actually use more than once. Also tickets are super expensive too. Just at my school, semi formal tickets are just $10 but prom tickets are like $90. That's almost 10x more! And it doen't even end at the dress. You have to get shoes, a bag, hair and make up, the works. I know accessories might not be completely necessary, but if i go, i want to look my best, right? Perpetually hungry.

^ You could rent a dress. :P Saves you the hundreds of dollars, since you'll only wear it once and then return it pretty much. Holy 10 bucks for semi formal tickets?! 90 for prom?! That's crazy. Our semi formal was 45 and our prom is around 100 - 120. :X University of British Columbia '15 Bachelor of Science Major in Biology

I bought a really nice red dress, which was totally out of character for me, and posted a picture of it on my school's prom dress Facebook page. Then a few days later, my friend points out to me that another girl just posted the EXACT SAME DRESS but said she bought it before me. The store would only give either of us store credit and not a refund, so we discussed it - I don't actually know her very well - and we decided to just wear the darn things and stay out of the same pictures. Regardless, I'm excited for prom. I told my boyfriend he has to officially ask me even though it's assumed that we're going together. I'm still waiting. He's got until June... Queen's Science 2015
