scribbles wrote:Hi! Can you please describe the state of the washrooms in traditional-style residences in detail? How many washroom stalls, showers, sinks, etc. on each floor per gender.
And is it difficult to sleep at night with so many people living so close to you? Such as issues with loud music, talking, the sound of showers and hair dryers, etc. Med-Syd bathrooms are pretty similar to what beyondsection17 described for Saugeen: 3 stalls, 3 sinks, 2 urinals (Med-Syd used to be all guys), and then a separate area with 3 showers. I'm not sure about Deli but I'd guess it's similar. Sleeping - I'm a light sleeper and I like to go to sleep early, so I did have a little trouble sometimes, but then I started using earplugs and that solved that problem. Plus usually people on your floor will keep it down if you ask. You can always talk to your RA or call the front desk to make a noise complaint if it's really bad, but I've never had it come to that. scribbles wrote:Thanks! Also, I've heard that it's mandatory that students leave the residence during winter vacation. What happens to students who don't live in London and don't plan on returning back to their families for the break? Yes, unfortunately this is true. Everyone I know in this situation (like international students) has stayed with extended family or friends. But I understand that this may not be an option, so like beyondsection17 said, if you talk to housing they may be able to accommodate you somehow. immaculatedx wrote:Thanks for all the advice again. Based on all the information so far, based on everything I've kind of made my ranking list:
London, Essex, Perth, Elgin, Medsyd .... The rest. I'm still considering atm though. Yay for London! I hope you get it! UWO Honours Specialization in Medical Sciences 2013

Oh I forgot about urinals! We also have a urinal in each of the girls and boys bathrooms. In the beginning, Saugeen was all male and Maitland was all female, so all the bathrooms on the Saugeen side have urinals, and none of the bathrooms on the Maitland side do! which residences would you say are the most 'part of campus' ? like right there in the middle of everything so you dont really have to 'walk to campus' to get to classes if that makes sense

Can you guys tell me anything about the glenmore apartments? I'm headed to Western for teachers college, and apparently I'm considered an upper-year transfer student and so I've been put on a waiting list for residence...I have no idea if I'll get an offer during the summer.
If I don't get in I'll have to go to one of the on-campus apartments. What I'd like to know is, what are they like? Any noticible cons about them? How about the social atmosphere? I'd imagine it isn't quite as easy to meet neighbours as it is in res, but is it really anti-social/anti-party there?

I haven't moved in yet, as they have 8-month leases beginning in September, but I can't imagine that they would have much of a social atmosphere. They're basically just apartment buildings owned by UWO, so I'd imagine there would be about as much interaction between tenants as there is in any other apartment building. Why do you want/need to live in res or on campus for teachers college? Residence is usually mostly first years and sophs, though every now and then there might be an upper year student living on the floor. Western University BHSc Health Sciences Class of 2014

I have a quick (and probably stupid) question. When do we get to find out our residence assignments, like which building which room we are placed in etc?? Thanks :D ~The University of Western Ontario'15~ Biological and Medical Sciences + Scholar's Electives Also Accepted To: University of Toronto - Life Sciences at Trinity McMaster University - Health Sciences

Thanks :D Not a stupid question at all, I'm sure a lot of other people were wondering too. Western will email you your building assignment in late July, but you won't find out your room, roommate, floor, etc until the day you move in. It's a painful wait, but get excited for wherever you're placed! UWO Honours Specialization in Medical Sciences 2013

I don't know a single soul going there, so finding other accomodations (e.g. off-campus housing) is gonna be tough. Most people I know move into a house with people they're already friends with to avoid getting a bunch of nightmare roommates. There's even a floor in London Hall dedicated to faculty of education people, but the waiting list on that one is super long, I doubt I'll get in. My only hope is Saugeen really, but even that I dunno if I'll get an offer...

not sure if anyone asked this yet..cause I'm way to lazy to read through the pages haha! I was just wondering how are the rooms + washrooms in delaware? Love how its in the central of the campus and in close proximity of everything, but I've always wanted my own washroom (or share between a small # of people like perth or the suites) because i'm like a super hygenic person!
How's the atmosphere at delaware?

How's the atmosphere at delaware? Deli atmosphere is great, but washrooms are pretty much the same as every other traditional res - two to a floor of ~35 people. It's not like Perth. Still great though :) Western University BHSc Health Sciences Class of 2014

Yeah UWO is pretty tight, res-wise, and since they promise res placements to all their incoming first years, it's usually rough for others to get in. They're even building a new, 1000-person res ?next? year to help keep that promise. I can't say I know much about upper year residence living though, so I can't really help. :( Sorry! Also about London Hall, that used to be an upper-year residence, but next year it's becoming a first year residence, so specialty floors will likely be different. generally, are floor washrooms clean? is there ever an issue of too many people needing to go at once and stuff like that :)? The only thing preventing me from putting delaware as first choice is that there are not personal washrooms!
And for perth, how bad really is the distance?

And for perth, how bad really is the distance? Don't worry about the washrooms too much! They get cleaned every morning (except maybe Saturday and Sunday). I lived in med-syd first year and never EVER had to wait to use the washroom. It was a rare occasion for me to see more than one other person in the washroom besides me, and I never had to wait to use the shower. Hey, I'm an exchange student coming to western this Autumn. As exchange students we were offered a place in the Lambton Hall. Can anyone tell me something about that residence. Seems like non of you talked about it so far. Any reason? Should I go to Lambton or should I try to find a place to stay when I arrive in August? Is it hard finding a good off campus flat with other students? Thanks!
