It is. It really is. I visited two friends there last year twice. The 2nd time I left early. Nothing against jews either. My best friends is jewish. But Huron is just overpopulated with em. And its true that all jews know eachother. Just adds to the annoyingness. Do most of the JAPS (jewish american princess) attend huron or is there a large jewish presence all over the UWO campus. Not that it matters b/c I love jews, I'm just curious.

Both Western and Queen's are predominantly known for being a school for upper middle-class white folks and not to mention both hold two of the top business programs out there in Canada. Western Ivey, and Queen's Commerce. A predominant upper middle-class population combined with the preppy kids in these top notch programs result in snobby kids thinking they're the crap. Those Toronto kids who are at Western are there because they could afford to go away from home, so, right away, most of them must at least be from fairly well off families. Rich kids are going to hear Western and Queen's' reputations for being fun schools, and they're probably going to be fine with moving away from home, so a lot of them end up Western and Queen's. The snobby kid I talked about in my first post in this thread was in university just to get a degree and have fun while doing it. He was essentially guaranteed a job at his dad's business, and - what made him a snob - he wasn't ashamed to admit that.
Appleby (in Oakville) is actually the private school I know the most people from. Just because someone goes away to school doesn't mean that theyre a snobby rich kid. A lot of people are paying their own way through school and their parents have nothing to do w it (whether they could afford it or not) UWO Nursing 2014

^Queen's does have a lot of small town kids though haha. It's like 50% are from cities, the other half are from small/medium sized towns. Kids from big cities aren't bad at all from my experience, the worst are the ones from small-medium sized towns who were hot stuff back in their hometown, and carry that attitude to university and it's just uh.. no. Queen's definitely has some very privileged students, but snobbiness isn't really an issue. There's a lot of sheltered kids, and its a pretty conservative student body, but nothing too terrible to deal with. No one has ever like rubbed their wealth in my face. Sometimes I'm like shocked at how much money people throw around, but I've never personally experienced true snobbiness. I've been more irritated by people who think they're superior because they're not as well off, and pass you off as some daddy's little rich girl. Queen's Arts 2014

There are a lot at Huron, but I'm sure you'll find them all over campus. Some are really cool though, so don't stereotype them right away. Some are worse then others however. Just get them to buy you drinks at the bar. treecows wrote: Queen's definitely has some very privileged students, but snobbiness isn't really an issue. This is actually really true. I found the most annoying kids to be the ones who BRAGGED about not having any money. It always made conversation awkward, and I never really knew to laugh or not. It's ok to make a poor student joke, but bragging about how you have no money is extremely annoying, and it does not make you cooler or "more of a man" then anyone else. It just shows that you have terrible financial planning skills, and are probably an idiot of some sort. kiddin around in brock accounting

One of my concerns attending Queen's is just the rumors I hear, and when you keep hearing them, there has to be some truth to them. I read how there was a black lady that resigned because of racism, and the fact that a handful of all the elite private schools kids head to Queen's just makes me wonder if I would be able to fit in with that type of crowd. Not saying they are like douches, but I'm just wondering if I would be able to fit in, especially because of being a public school kid since the day I was born, being a minority and being very poor. At the end of the day I had to make some sacrifices, to attend a well-renowned business school for the sake of my future. Dual Degree in Economics & Commerce Queen's University '15

I went to a Toronto Private School, and i can assure you, you will have no problem fitting in with them. I am fortunate enough to have parents who help fund my schooling, but I have soooooooooo much respect for someone who pays there own way or most of the way through schooling and works hard. Let your work ethic do the talking, and don't hold the fact that others may be more fortunate then you against them. A lot of my friends at Queens (the guys anyway) I know feel the same way. If you work hard and you are a "nice guy", it won't be an issue. You'd also be suprised the amount of private school kids who are looking to get away from the "private school scene". Anyone who makes fun of you or does not associate with you based on financial well-being or where you are from (except the oakville jokeville jokes hahahahaa) is really not worth your time. I honestly believe discussing financial wealth, well-being or status in a public scenario is wildly inappropriate. There were a few kids in my residence who would call me out based on my shoes or jeans for example, and I really hated it. It is not something that should be judged. kiddin around in brock accounting

I actually find really wealthy people are modest about their wealth because they've been taught not to flaunt it. I think the douchebag to nice ratio doesn't change too much among different socioeconomic groups. Bragging about poverty is annoying, especially when you see people who claim to be poor spend unnecessarily on things like eating out. k
BUT I think if you are hanging out with a group of people where nearly everyone is better off than you, it can get awkward. People might want to go out to eat/drink at places or do activities (e.g. skiing) you can't afford. This is not because they're being mean, but simply because they've been brought up that way and don't really think it's a big deal.

Hahah well it's not that they're idiots with their money, just their parents just don't have as much money as others. Not their fault but seriously those people who brag about being poor... This year, I've just had some incidents where I've been in really awkward situations when people made snide comments like "well I take school really seriously just because I'm paying for it, not my parents," "my parents really sacrificed for me, I mean I didn't have nannies or anything growing up," "do you know how many children you can feed with one Canada Goose jacket?" *errr looked down at my jacket.. AWKS. That happened in a tutorial too haha, I had no idea what to do. goldmansachs wrote:One of my concerns attending Queen's is just the rumors I hear, and when you keep hearing them, there has to be some truth to them. No you'll be fine as long as you don't bring pre-conceived notions about people. I went to public school, and I'm an minority (technically I guess but being chinese is really NBD haha). My parents are split up so I've experienced both privilege and struggles. Half my floor went to private school, and you never would've known. People never felt like an outsider because of their wealth or lack of. There's probably a couple douches that give the rest of the student body a bad name, but seriously that's not all of us. I attend a GTA Private School and yes there are snobby kids, but they are the minority and I haven't met one who was in everyone's face about their wealth. When I first came to my school I assumed that everyone would be a snob and this was not the case. So yes a lot of us GTA private school kids come to western and queens but we are not obnoxious. These kinds of people are everywhere...I don't have much patience with these people so I choose my friends wisely. Honestly, please stop worrying what other people are like. Thank-you.
