Which university should I go to Guelph, or UBC Vancouver.
At UBC I would be doing Applied Animal Biology and at Guelph I would be doing Animal Biology. I plan on becoming a vet in the future.

I've made a list of pro's and con's for each university, but I still can't choose! Please help me!!

GUELPH
PRO'S
- close to home (1:30 hr drive)
- lots of opportunities to volunteer with the vet school
- smaller course load with 2 electives
- $2000 scholarship
CON'S
- not the prettiest city
- don't know anyone

UBC VANCOUVER
PRO'S
- best friend is going there
- prettiest campus ever
- lots of activities offered
- it's APPLIED animal biology, so there will be more hands on work
CON'S
- lots of plane rides to visit home (5 hr rides)
- no electives and a harder course load

Thank you everyone!!
Please explain your opinion whether I should attend UBC or Guelph.

Guelph has one of the best animal biology programs in the country. Plus, if you are interested in applying to veterinary college later, Guelph will provide you with tons of opportunities to volunteer with animals. To apply to veterinary college, you need to have a lot of experience with animals, as well as two letters of recommendation from veterinarians with whom you have worked. Being at Guelph will allow you to gain those experiences that you need in order to apply to veterinary college.

It's also a lot cheaper to live in Guelph than Vancouver. Vancouver is a wonderful city and UBC is a great school, but if veterinary medicine is your goal, Guelph is probably your best bet.

There are also TONS of activities at Guelph. There are more clubs and activities than you can imagine! There is the opportunity to become involved in almost anything you can imagine. I'm personally active with the Nutrition students' group, the Equestrian club, the Masters swim club, and I teach fitness classes at the gym. There are tons more clubs I could be involved in, but I just don't have the time!

I find Guelph to be a very pretty city, actually, compared to many places I have lived, like Edmonton or Winnipeg. Guelph's campus is beautiful, and the arboretum is gorgeous. There are tons of wonderful recreation trails throughout the city as well, and all along the rivers. But hey, to each their own.

Anyhow, if you plan on going to veterinary college, Guelph is your best bet. You will have many, many opportunities to work with animals and gain the volunteer experience you need to apply to OVC.

Guelph because of opportunities to get involved with foal watch, animal research facilities etc on campus. I wish I got to do that during my undergrad (though I don't regret not going to Guelph for my Bachelor's).

PS. I got into OVC and will be starting there in September, feel free to PM me if you have any questions later on about the application process!

By the sounds of the other posters, sounds like Guelph is the best for your specific degree. But I'm sure UBC is still great, and as for the university experience - unmatched!

Guelph has a great social scene. From your posts here I can guess you would quite like it, actually.

I'll admit, I don't know much about Guelph.

It depends whether you want a big city with a university in it, or a university city.
