Do the big banks outside of Canada recognize the DD as that good of a program? Like Wall Street or even in Asia maybe?

I don't know about Asia but one of UW Math's advertising points were that 7 of last year's DD's graduating class were hired to firms in the New York Financial Industry.

I've been told from upper years that a few European banks have liked and continue to like DDs.

Does that mean 7 DD's that were based on the Waterloo side, or 7 DD's counting all of them? Either way that's pretty impressive :P

Probably 7 DD's as a whole, but I'm guessing the majority if not all of them were UW based. Laurier has great business/finance coops in Canada for such a small school but its presence is pretty weak internationally.

But in keep in mind though, that probably none of those 7 DDs had IBank positions Analyst/Associate position if that's what you were looking for.

Haven't heard the 7 number before, but haven't heard anything to disprove it. I know quite a few DD's have worked on Wall Street for co-op, and that BMO posts international positions on the WLU side (probably on the UW side as well).

immaculatedx - I would guess about half of them were WLU based. You get the brand name of both schools while graduating, can attend recruiting sessions at both schools, no reason why Laurier's rep would hurt someone.

Do you guys mind sharing the names of the financial institutions that recruited those DD's for full-time and co-op (in New York)? Do they atleast include the Bulge Brackets?

Is getting to either campus a difficulty? Isn't it almost a 20 minute walk between the campuses?

It's definitely not a 20 minute walk. You can do it in 5 easy. Laurier's a small campus and getting around Waterloo's campus isn't too difficult. My mom went to Laurier (this was obviously a number of years ago) and took some classes at UW. She only had a 10 minute break between classes and she made it to her class every time, and at the most would only be a couple minutes late. Its really not that bad. Just expect to move fast if you only have 10 minutes.

I am pretty sure that I have heard DD names associated with coops at Deutche, BoA/ML, JPM, UBS, Barcalys which is already 5/9 BBs. Not all of these were in NY, but still a BB.

Your schedule is generally made so that you have UW classes in the morning then a decent break for lunch and then your WLU classes in the afternoon. And anyways, like g93 mentioned, the campuses are like right next to eachother.

How would you rate the quality of your supp. apps? You said you got in with an ~88 while most have 90s, did you have stellar ECs?

I has very strong ECs. However UW did reject me anyways. Its probably a little easier to get in to the WLU side then the UW side, but just by a percent or two.

I also found that WLU offers a BCS/BBA that isn't joint with UW. Did you apply to that program? Presumably it should be easier to get in, but how is the quality of WLU's CS program?

How does a second year double degree student have time...to do this. Troll. That means your marks are sh*t and you have no choice but to feel better about yourself by coming on here and helping high school students.

What a shame.

Yes I applied there as well. I ranked it behind the WLU/UW one. The WLU CS program is certainly not as good as the UW one, but it is still somewhat respectable. The WLU DD programs are still great - one of my friends is a 3rd year WLU DD, and he has had good co-op experiences. His first was at Manulife, and he's currently had numerous interviews with banks for his 2nd co-op term.

What are considered strong ECs? Do you think quality or quantity is better? I mean like, more clubs with smaller roles or a few clubs but big roles. Also, looking at the admission averages for the DD this year, UW's starts at mid-80s while WLU is 90s. This makes it seem easier to get into UW but everyone says getting into WLU is easier?

Id say positions that show leadership are best. If it was a small role, but it required you to take on some form of leadership its good. For me I had VP of DECA, 2x international DECA competitor, VP Finance for Relay for Life, Grade 9 Orientation Leader x 2, Volunteer award for my city, lifeguarding/swim instructing experience, 4 time head baseball coach. All those things required leadership of some kind.

My best guess is UW is trying to attract more applicants, and may be willing to look at EC's a bit more this year. They could of also felt they didn't get as many applicants as they wanted last year so they lowered the reqs a bit. Each year requirement averages can move 2% either way so I'm not too sure. However I was rejected from UW like I said, and I know others were rejected there as well, but got offers from WLU.

Wow you made it to ICDC twice?! You're like, my hero. What category were you in? Also, what other universities did you apply to and what made you choose to not go to them and where would you have gone if you didn't get into this program? Sorry if you feel like I'm attacking you with all these questions!
