Hi, has anyone taken ENG4U through TDSB summer e-learning? I am seriously considering to take either ENG4U summer virtual school or grade 12 chemistry in normal summer school.

-How do you get marked in online English? How are tests written?

-What's the difficulty difference between online English and day school English? What's the class average? Is a 90+ achievable?

-Should I take ENG4U or SCH4U in the summer?

I haven't taken english though E-Learning, but I am taking Earth and Space Science.

Test are written each week, and theres a time limit to do it. So if you don't have the best internet, I would avoid this course. While they say you shouldn't cheat, nobody is stopping you from getting help. Basically, its your opportunity to get help to write the best you can. however, theres always an exam in the end.

I know summer school (Just summer school not online) people have gotten 90 + easily.

Maybe that would be an option.

But its english, so never look for an "easy way out" cause there isnt.

Good luck.

Hi there,

I will try to answer your questions. Basically, there are no tests in ENG4U Online course but plenty of assignment that you have to complete. For instance, we had to read Hamlet and for every scene post our favorite quote and explain how significant it is to the whole scene.

Day school English is way harder as you have presentations and acting to do. Fortunately, there is none of that in an online English course . Our class average is around 75 and a 90 is achievable if you seek help right away and work hard of course. In my opinion, it is much easier to get a 90 in an online English course than in regular day school English. My mark is 77 right now and aiming at an 82-83 for the final mark.

You should decide what course you're weaker in and take that one because you're going to be marked easier in an online course.

Good luck! cheers

I don't know about 4U in TDSB but I'm currently taking 3U in TVDSB. It is much easier to get a higher mark if you review all of your work once for an elearning course compared to attending classes. If you thrive off of improving and feedback though, day school is better because there is a teacher you see 5 days a week. The lack of presentations also makes things easier, I've had to record a speech and I still got an 85% on it while being monotone and keeping the same pace throughout. If you speak better than you write, than take day school; otherwise elearning is easier.
