Hi everyone! I've been searching the forums for a while now but I haven't been able to find quite what I'm looking for. Well, while rankings and whatnot aren't always the most reliable source of information, the results pretty consistently show that students at U of T tend to be dissatisfied with their school. However, the majority of the students going there are commuters.
Now, I live in Ottawa, and I've noticed that a lot of my friends who commute to OttawaU and Carleton aren't particularly satisfied there and that the satisfaction results in these sort of surveys tend to be very low for these schools, but the handful of friends I have who stayed in residence for first year have a much different perspective and are all loving their time there. Granted, I know very few people who could afford to stay in residence here, so that sample size if you will is rather small and might not be entirely accurate.
Since I would be coming from out of town, I would be staying in residence if I decided to attend U of T (I'd be at the St. George campus). My question here is directed at students who stayed in residence at UTSG: were you satisfied with your student experience there?
I've heard the stories of how difficult it is to get good grades and all that, but I'm not too concerned because the teachers at my school for grade 12 are (almost) all either former professors or part time university professors here in the city, so I'll have a really solid preparation in my grade 12 year for university. In addition to this, I'm not planning on going to medical school, and U of T has a really great program that would really help me take steps toward my goals of graduate school. I'm more concerned with how satisfied you've actually been with your school. Have you been able to find and join a community on campus? Have you joined any extra-curriculars? Have you enjoyed living in downtown Toronto? Have you been satisfied with the programs/courses/academic opportunities?
Basically, I just really want to see how satisfied students in residence are, since commuting is a completely different experience and there's no way to view the results of the student satisfaction surveys as "residence student responses" and "commuting student responses", if that makes sense?
This has been a lot longer than I intended I just really wanted to make sure my question was clear. Thank you so much in advance for your time in reading this and in helping me!
