I'm in grade 11 and I am trying to plan ahead for university. So far, my overall grade 11 mark is 87-90%. I am taking university biology, chemistry, physics, functions, calculus, english, and music for grade 12. I was thinking of going to Western University for bio-medical science to become a dentist, and apply at the Dental school at Western. Or, I was planning on taking Life Sciences in St. George Toronto University to become a dentist as well. However, I am having difficulties choosing which program is the right one and what courses and classes I must take for each program. Help? **Shields** Accepted: University of Toronto: Social Sciences + Vic One (Pearson Stream) Carleton University: Honours Science University of British Columbia: Arts

Schulich doesn't prefer Western undergrads over people that went to other schools. Next year Western's pre-reqs will be Eng, Calc, Bio, Chem + top 2 outside of those I'm not sure about UT. The University of Western Ontario Biological and Medical Sciences '16

I rejected UofT life science Western biomed is so much better, it has a slightly higher cutoff, and the people look so much more happy. Also they actually get better grades. You don't need to do your undergraduate degree at a university that has a dental school. The dental schools accept students from any Canadian university, as long as you meet the dental school's pre-requisites. So, in Southern Ontario, I would look at Western, McMaster, Guelph, Waterloo and York. Each of those schools has different strengths and offers programs that will prepare you for professional schools, like dental school. Western is apparently easier. I have a few close friends who said it wasn't hard. And I'm guessing you want the school where you can get higher marks more easily. Don't listen to all of the negative UofT comments. Yes it's probably more challenging, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I can tell you that for first year, course selection is pretty much set at UofT. Bio, chm, mat must be taken. Psych and physics are popular courses too. Physics because its a prereq to a lot of other courses. University of Toronto (StG) - Biochemistry Specialist (Hon. BSc 2015)

Are you guys kidding me?! Western University, and biomed/ science is NOT an easy way out. TRUST ME, I'm doing my third year there and I've talked to many fellow university of Toronto students and we are definitely ON par with their level of difficulty, and in some aspects even learnt more than they did in some classes. I chose Western over UofT because they had more options in the medical field, specifically physiology, pharmacology, medical science, etc. I felt it had more variety, thus I would find something I like and I'm good at! You should NOT ever base your assumptions of a university based on hearsay, ultimately it's about the people you're with, YOUR university experience, and most importantly the effort you put in. What I can say is that Western has a gorgeous campus, great and friendly people, the residences are awesome, and the profs are quite good (overall lol). SO for those reasons, yeah come join us at Western (: But if you have other reasons, like UofT is closer, or you (somehow:S) like their campus better. GO FOR IT! Do not EVER base it on what other say, Decide for yourself, even if it means talking to more people and doing your own research and spending the extra effort, you will be confident that what you chose is for the best and won't regret it. Western and UofT are both really good schools, and both known for their respective science undergrads. I personally chose U of T over Waterloo and Western because I wanted to pursue my Masters and perhaps Med/Pharm/Dental school. U of T is a better place to do your masters or any other post grad option. And to be honest, I did really well in all my classes (80 and above), but Calc for Life Science really killed me. Just worry about your Calc courses, other than that you should do fine. Also, the content at both the Universties will be the same, U of T just has more students and therefore has more students they need to get rid of. I personally did fine, and am about to do my second year with a pretty high GPA. But you really need to give up your social life. Western is also really good, and I heard its an amazing school for residence. I just don't want you to be scared about going to UofT, but any school is a excellent choice. I also wanted to comment that undergrad is really hard at U of T, but your 3rd and 4th years will be on par with any other school in terms of difficulty. Just try doing very well first year if you decide to enter UofT. University of Toronto; Life Science, Class of 2015 Molecular Biology Specialist, Chemistry Minor
