I'm sort of an international student, but not really.

I was born in Canada, so I'm a Canadian citizen and I've got a Canadian passport, but I've never really lived in Canada, I left the country a few months after I was born, and I haven't been back.

So the problem is, I'm hoping to go to U of T, so I applied for OSAP, but I was told to apply for loans through my own province, and that's non-existent.

How do I get around this problem?? Sorry for possibly posting this q in the wrong category...

What province did you live in most recently? That might be the one you need to apply to.

I was born in Vancouver. I guess that means I've applied to the completely wrong place?! But it seems like the whole matter of tuition fees for U of T is quite reliant on OSAP? I want to defer the payment of tuition fees, but I was told I can only defer them after OSAP makes a decision regarding my loans... sorry I'm completely clueless about these things!!

It is very common for universities to have a more streamlined process for the student loan system in their province, but that doesn't mean that loans from other provinces can't be processed. You just won't be able to hit the nice button or ROSI that says defer tuition based on OSAP loans. You will more likely have to go into their office in person and provide proof of other student loans.

Qualifying for loans is not a question of your citizenship but your residency: http://www.aved.gov.bc.c...igibility.php#residency
