k... so I just finished grade 11 and i decided to take grade 12 english, because I figured that if i did bad I can just redo it, since my guidance counsellor kept telling me that universitie's don't penalize you for taking english twice. I just finished english summer school and ended up getting an 83. I am applying to u of T Scarborough, mississauga, and st. George. I really really want to get into u of t scarborough because it's close to my family. Also I'm applying to wilfred laurier, all for business management. In grade 12, I plan to take calculus, advanced functions, data, religion (mandatory), and 2 psychology courses. I am aiming to get an 85 overall, but I think i will likely get 83-low 80's. My marks in grade 11 weren't that great. 72 in math, retook it and got a 90, 79 in music, 68 in eng3U, 74 in accounting, 81 in religion, 72 in bio, and 73 in chemistry(nothing else to take). Would I have a chance of getting into u of t at all? Do they look at your first english mark and grade 11 marks? Really really stressed and scared here. I need some advice! *sigh*

Quote:Repeated Courses While the University of Toronto recognizes that there may be valid reasons for a student to repeat a course, in general we urge students do as well as possible on their first attempt. In considering students for admission and scholarships, the University reserves the right to give preference to students whose marks are the result of a single attempt at each course. http://joomla.utsc.utoro...;view=article&id=46
Quote:ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS All program areas require: • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent • Six Grade 12 U/M subjects or equivalent including English and any other prerequisites Admission will be based on the academic record, with close attention paid to the prerequisite subjects, plus requested supplementary or profile information. For the final average, Grade 12 English U and the next best five Grade 12 U/M subjects will be used. In summary: no, grade 11 marks won't matter, and yes, re-taking grade 12 English may affect your chances. -- Candidate for B.S. in Economics (Finance, Statistics) The Wharton School University of Pennsylvania, Class of 2015

so does that mean i basically have no chance of getting in with a 68? so they won't even consider my second english attempt? my cousin said that they pay close attention to extra curricular activities. is that also true?

he just said grade 11 marks don't matter...so the 68 won't matter in Eng3U. However, I don't know why you would redo ENg4U, you should be elated to get a 83, especially since you got a 68 in grade 11 English. Applying to [Fall 2012]:

because 83 is what i got in my second attempt at eng4u. I got 68 in eng3u in summer school last year, but didn't attempt to redo that one. then i did eng4u in second semester of grade 11, got 68 also, and went to summer school and got an 83. of course i'd be happy if i got 83 on my first attempt, but that is not the case:(

you never said that..you just said what you got in eng3U and you never clarified what attempt was your 83 in eng4u..and that case I think U of T averages out both attempts (83 + 68) /2 = 75.5% That will be good enough for Scarborough and if you're other marks are really good (high 80+) probably the other schools too Applying to [Fall 2012]:

ahh yes sorry about that, i guess i thought i had mentioned it. do they normaLLY find an average between your two marks? I am planning either economics or business. would you think i have a shot at either if my other courses were mid to low 80's?

U of T (and McGill probably) I'm pretty sure are the only universities that averages out both attempts, all other places only look at the higher mark. So even at u of t you have a 76 in English which is not too bad but could be the deciding factor unless you don't pull mid or high 80s in the other courses. Of you only pull low 80s in the other courses there's a high chance you won't get in. Applying to [Fall 2012]:
