I've been thinking a lot about whether I should apply to law schools in Canada or not, but can't make up my mind. I'm honestly not really looking to become a lawyer. I'd just want the experience and education for a career down the road.. and having a law degree opens up a lot of doors, especially in the field I want to go into (thinking about IR/organization/UN-type stuff).

Is it worth it? The masters programs would be 1-2 years whereas law would be 3 and I'm guessing much tougher or at least more stressful. It'd also be more expensive, but I feel like it'd give me more to work with.

Also, the whole studying something as specific as law brings up the issue of being able to practice in certain places. I wouldn't want to just be able to practice in Canada if I chose to do that... I'd want an international career/qualification.

No, don't bother with law if you're not at all interested in becoming a lawyer. ESPECIALLY if you want to go the IR route -- international law is hardly a field at all, and certainly not worth taking a law degree to learn. A Master's degree is a much better option, and is the degree that international organizations such as the UN are looking for. Law school will be the worst three years of your life, so choose very wisely if you're looking at that route.
