Yes, you did! Thank you! But hopefully you don't mind answering more: How did you manage to get 89 at the end of the year? Right now I'm getting high 80s but I'm afraid they'll drop down at the end of the year. I'm currently in grade 12 and taking all three sciences, MCR3U, gr. 12 English and World Religions (I go to a non-sem, Catholic school too), and I'm not so good with math and English. I heard at Ryerson nursing students write A LOT of essays? ahhh. Also, do you need physics to be a nurse like you know for the technology things, or not? How about exercise science (intro to anatomy) and philosophy for gr. 12 are those helpful? Did doing Calculus help you as a nursing student? Lastly, what made you decide you want to be a nurse? 'Cause I'm still confused. And sorry for asking too many questions! D:

And I don't mind the questions lol Don't worry :)

I hope my answers have helped.

Yes! It is possible :)

Unfortunately, the summer courses are limited and not all the liberal courses you would like to take will be available during the summer. You will get an email sometime closer to the end of your first year of the list of available courses during the summer.

I recommend taking your required non-nursing courses during the summer as well. It's better with things out of the way.

Keep in mind, the summer/spring terms are about a month long. So, the content will be moving a lot faster and assignments/test with multiple courses can be jumbled up around the same time. Organize your time/choose your courses wisely.

I have a queston! i applied for the Ryerson & Centennial program and got accepted with a conditional offer, and my conditions are that i need to maintain a 65% in chemistry. At the time that i applied, i was getting a 60, and now my chem mark is dropping horribly and I'm going into the exam with a 52! what are the chances that ryerson won't revoke my acceptance, i really want this program :(

I have one friend who managed to get into the program with a 50 in Calculus. However, his marks for other courses were pretty high so I guess it balanced out for him.

I do think it mainly depends on the competition for the year.

If anything, call the undergraduate office at Centennial and ask if you can upgrade your chem mark during summer school and still be considered for admission.

I hope things work out for you!

If you don't get in, you could always opt to accept another offer from another program/university and transfer to the nursing program during first year.

Just make sure you work hard to keep your GPA up.

Hey flonightingale14,

I know you haven't posted anything in a month, but hopefully you'll still reply.

Can you elaborate on accepting another offer from another program and transferring to nursing first year?

Is that possible to transfer to the nursing program during first year?

Hi, first I want to thank you for all the info you posted up to now :)
I was kinda hoping this question was asked as I was going through the whole post.. and it may be a weird question.

Now I understand currently (at least in my opinion) that there is a female dominance over the nursing field and I'm wondering are there many male students in your current classes?

Also, are there many opportunities to volunteer over summer?

Hi fmcjbr,

I apologize. I've been enjoying my summer break, but hopefully you will be able to see this answer in time.

Assuming you have applied to other programs with other universities and have been accepted to those offers, you can opt to accept those offers and spend your first year of university with that other program.

While in this other program, you work hard and keep your GPA up. When the time comes, you can apply for the nursing program again with your current marks from the program you are currently in.

If you want to apply for the nursing program at another school, I believe you need to be accepted in the program. So, you would go through a similar process as you did for applying to university (via OUAC).

If you want to apply to the nursing program at the same university, I THINK there is a difference process.

I would suggest talking to the appropriate people at your university to get more information about transferring process. That is as far as I know about the topic.

You would not get transferred right away into the nursing program. You would spend one year at another program and once you are accepted into the nursing program of your choice, you will begin your first year of nursing there. So basically, you are applying for university all over again.

Hello hi5momo,

I understand nursing itself is a very female dominated field. However, there a good number of male students in my current class. Obviously they are the minority, but there is a good number of them.

I do remember one of my professors saying my year had the most male nursing students they've had in a while. My class is divided into 3 sections for classes and every section has a good handful of male students in them.

As for the volunteering opportunities, there are one that do pop up every once in awhile during the school year. As for summer volunteering, I don't think there are ones that are specific to the nursing program. However, I know that there a lot of overseas volunteering just for everyone on campus. You just need to talk to and ask the right people about these opportunities sometimes.

Hi flonightingale14,

I hope you're having a good year, this post has been really helpful. I'm in grade 12 right now and I'm interested in going into nursing. Do you think location really matters? I live 15 minutes away from Centennial but it'll take 1.5 hours to get downtown. I think it would be nice to go to Ryerson or GB but I know commuting can really take it out of you. Do you think it would be worth saving the time and sacrifice the campus quality because 7 courses first year sounds intense!
Ryerson(main site) Accepted
Ryerson(Centennial) Accepted
Ryerson(George Brown) Accepted
UOIT Accepted
McMaster Accepted

Do they accept pre-nursing certificate??

Hello Skye12,

I apologize for the EXTREMELY late reply....school has been really intense. Honestly, all the courses and content are the same throughout the program.

If you are really worried about juggling the courses, I would just go to Centennial. That commute sounds pretty brutal.

Is the 1.5hr commute just from TTC? You might want to consider taking the GO if you are considering going to Ryerson or GB. It might get you dt faster.

Hi roxygen,

I only took Advanced Functions and Calculus. Taking Data Management in high school would help as we learn about statistics in second year. Remember you only need to take ONE math credit for admission into the program. I only took Calculus as I was applying for another program that required it.

And you don't need physics :)

Hi there! I'm a first year student and just have a qustion about 4th year placements. Where do these placements typically take place...I know a lot of students recieve job opportunites from these 4th yr placements, so do students get to choose where they go (based on the area of nursing they are interested in?)

Thanks so much!

I applied for the BScN program (both Ryerson main site and GBC/Ryerson site) through Ontario University Application Centre, not Ontario College.ca. Now, I am able to check both applicaiton statuses through Ryerson website.

Does it mean that I need to submit all my officially transcripts and important documents to Ryerson only? Or do I need to submit them to GBC as well?

What is the difference between applying through OUAC and applying through OCAS?
Applied to:
BScN at Ryerson Main Site [Waitlisted on April 17]
BScN at George Brown/Ryerson Collaborative Site [Waitlisted on April 19]

Although it is the same program, you are still applying to two different schools.

I would assume you need to send your transcripts to both Ryerson AND GB. However, please call the undergraduate office to inquire. I don't know much about the application process with the college threads.

Thanks for the reply! Hope everything is going well. I've applied to all three ryerson sites and UOIT (got an early offer!) but I think I'm leaning towards Centennial. The GO bus doesn't go to dt where I live and >3 hour commute sounds crazy :P
