Fair warning: if you hate English (writing and reading comprehension in particular), you will hate a lot of HSci. Obviously we're not an arts program, but essays, summaries, proposals, written reflections, journal reading etc. is huuuuuuge--and marked for content and clarity. I didn't take summer school because I hated English. I just wanted to get a higher mark (which I did). (Y) McMaster University 2016 Bachelor of Health Sciences

Hey everyone, I was at Mac the other day, and talked to one of the counselors about the programme and admissions etc... for quite a while. Just to clarify (because I know it has been said a few different ways in this forum): The applicants are read by 3 people, and graded on a scale from -5 to +5. They average the scores, then add/subtract it from your average. So if you have a 95, get an overall of 3 on the supplemental, you have a 98. The send out acceptances starting at 105, then 104 and so on until they've accepted 200 for 160 spots.

I just got a rejection email, I heard you can send an email back asking to be reconsidered, my average for first term fell short, but my average for my midterm marks is 92. Can anyone confirm this, it would be really helpful.

So how are health sci apps graded?

It's marked out of 7, not 5. At least 3 people will be reading it (2 4th years, 1 faculty member), and your app will be averaged (eg. 6, 6, 5.5 gives you an overall grading of 5.83). Admission averages will NOT be taken into consideration unless it's needed as a tiebreaker (hence why applicants with 97% averages still get rejected). A student scoring a 7 on their supp app with a 91% average will receive admission before a 98% student with an average score of 5 on their supp app.
I have friends who applied the same application cycle as me and they didn't get in with 98% and 99% top 6 averages.

[quote=TROLOLOL]The awkward moment when people go on other forums and ask people to write their mac health sci supplementary apps, offering to pay via paypal... lololol o_o Awks. ANYWAYS. @Hunter94, I like your second response the best, out of all three. Your first one had really good diction, but I found the periodic strange, Yoda-like phrases and some grammar inconsistencies confusing. Maybe it's just me but I felt like those detracted from what you were trying to say. The second response was very well written and flowed quite well. I really did enjoy the suspense you built up by not revealing the word in the beginning, but for me personally I was totally expecting you to reveal it somewhere in the middle so as it dragged on (despite the eloquent phrases) I grew slightly annoyed :P I have to stress that it was very well done though (and very philosophical :D) The third was very personal and I think that adds a lot of character and flavor to your application. Good job over all :) McMaster Health Science

Well that is unbelievably upsetting... I have lots of friends trying to get into Mac Health Sci and it makes me sick that people are getting their apps written by other ppl and can potentially take spots away from the deserving applicants... what's next, will this guy pay someone to write the MCAT too? Upsetting but what can you do? If your friends get in, they can sleep easy knowing it was based off their own merits. I guess in the end anybody could be doing this and there'd be no way to know :p Love your sig btw
