Hey all. Im a 2nd year BBA/BCS student at WLU and UW, based out of WLU. Feel free to ask me anything about DD, BBA at WLU, Math/CS at UW, student life in Waterloo, Co-op, etc. I am also quite familiar with Schulich, so I can try my best to answer questions about the BBA/iBBA program there. Feel free to have any discussions about DD in here as well, it's always great to keep things together. Cheers. hey i know the admission average changed, but what average did you get to enter the DD program? How is the workload for a DD program? I'm interested in applying to the BMath/BBA program btw. Does waterloo look at the euclid contest if I apply to the BMath/BBA? Also, if i apply to BMath/BBA or the FARM program, can i major in actuarial science later? or do i have to apply to the BMath program for Act Sci?

If you could choose now, would you rather be on the WLU side or the UW side? Or is there no difference? Also do DD students get noticeably better/more co-op placements than the other business students (on either side) Waterloo Mechanical Engineering '17 Applied: McGill :) :( :( :( Western :) Ivey :( U of T :) :) Waterloo :) :) :)

There are a few, including the OP I believe who did not.

Will probably be one of the lowest marks you'll find. Laurier will be more willing to take people in the 89ish range, where as at UW its basically 90+ or bust. The workload is intesive no doubt. When you speak to a BBA student they will say 90% of their effort goes into their BBA courses, and when you talk to a math/cs student they'll say 80 or 90% of their effort goes into their core courses. That's certainly not to say it can't be done. Having a solid work ethic helps, along with a willingness to work late. In BMath/BBA you can major in actuarial science. You'll select your Math major a year or two into it. I recommend taking stats 230 in your 1B semester so that you can take the first actuarial exam over the summer. With FARM I don't think you can do an actuarial major. WLU/UW BBA/BCS 2015 Formerly noxx98

Also do DD students get noticeably better/more co-op placements than the other business students (on either side) I'd pick the WLU side again. There's certainly times where I'd like to be UW based. I like the slightly more academic atmosphere at UW, as compared to the party atmosphere at WLU. However everyone at WLU is super nice, and you will really love it there. In respect to co-op jobs at the two schools, Laurier has a lot more business type jobs, whether its for accounting, IB, PE, marketing etc, you'll be able to find it. UW has a lot of quantitative positions in business, but they're lacking in more of the "softer" business jobs, in marketing etc. That said, WLU is really lacking in anything CS related. Yep most certainly they do get better jobs. You have a great skill set, and you're marks are usually solid as well (DD average grade is 80%). WLU/UW BBA/BCS 2015 Formerly noxx98

Could you answer some questions about the BMath/BBA program too? I don't think anyone else who posts regularly is in the double degree program... :( Waterloo Mechanical Engineering '17 Applied: McGill :) :( :( :( Western :) Ivey :( U of T :) :) Waterloo :) :) :)

:) What's the most common specialization? How many people choose the finance/mathematical finance option? Do they end up with the better investment banking placements as compared to the normal BBA students or will their heavier courseload (I guess that means lower GPA?) hurt them in that area? Most people will do a finance major out of Laurier. On the math side the most common major is statistics, however there are many that will opt not to major in math. The average for DD students is 80%. So marks tend not to be an issue. Once your above the 85% barrier you're basically fair game for banking jobs. I'd wager that a higher percentage of DD students go into banking of some form then normal BBA students. WLU/UW BBA/BCS 2015 Formerly noxx98

Since you can be based at either university, does that mean I can apply to the same program at both? Given that UW is more competitive, I can still attend WLU for say, a BBA/BMath if I get rejected from UW? University of Waterloo: Systems Design Engineering Class of 2017

If finance (i-banking) was your final goal, would you rather go to DD or another business school like QC, Ivey, Laurier BBA, etc? Waterloo Mechanical Engineering '17 Applied: McGill :) :( :( :( Western :) Ivey :( U of T :) :) Waterloo :) :) :)

A stats/actsci double major is also very popular among DDs.

You can actually major in stats/actsci without any additional credits (beyond those for the actsci major). A very diligent student can Major in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Operations Research and Mathematical Finance by doing 6 courses basically every semester. WLU/UW BBA/BCS 2015 Formerly noxx98

Most common: Waterloo - Undeclared, Stats, Stats/Actsci (a lot of overlap between required courses for the 2 majors) Laurier - Finance, Accounting Economics minor is common, only 3 extra courses required. Students that do mathematical finance are very into pure math and finance. Students that pick this major are usually *extremely extremely extremely* hard working and will get good grades in spite of the difficulty of courses. Just doing DD will put you a step ahead of the BBA students, also recruiters usually know that the DD program is really hard and hence grades can be lower than BBA students, but what may be inexcusable is having poor grades in courses that are required for your major/specialization. Also whats equally important is being well rounded - sports, exec positions on clubs, finance/investment clubs, good achievements that you can talk about.
