How Do I Apply My Math Degree?

By Miroslav Lovric

Career options: academic positions in mathematics at universities (very few and far between); high school and college teaching (very popular!); research in government institutions (such as Stats Canada).

Mathematicians are not highly “visible” in a workplace, such as lawyers of physicians. They usually work in the background, for instance as actuaries in insurance companies, as financial planners of risk managers in banks, or as software designers and computer programmers.

Miroslav Lovric, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, McMaster University, and 3M National Teaching Fellow.
