How Do I Decide Between a Big School and a Small School?

By Janice Newton

Big schools may give you greater choice in courses and contact with a greater range of faculty members, but the larger classes can overwhelm some students and make it hard to make friends.  Smaller schools may give you more individualized attention, smaller classes, closer contact with faculty and greater ease in making friends, but less choice in courses and range of faculty.

Janice Newton, Department of Political Science, York  University, and 3M National Teaching Fellow.
