Clothes for University

Q. I've worn a uniform for the past 7 years, and thus do not have as many normal clothes as people who wear them everyday. So I'm going to have to buy some more clothing for next year, I was wondering if anyone had a list of what clothes to bring to school? (posted by: moodeline)
A. Same stuff you wear outside of school now ... I wear the same stuff to university that I wear on the weekends. Most people do the same. (posted by: mynameismattgotmlgo)
I plan on bringing a lot more comfy clothes ... University is pretty casual, you don't really have to dress up a lot. (posted by: Jac1993)
Get some jeans ... can't go wrong with skinny jeans and a tshirt. Maybe a light jacket for autumn. Big poofy jacket for winter. Some shorts for summer if you're comfortable walking around in those. A skirt or two for nights out. (posted by: cyynthiia)
Wear whatever you want. I wear jeans, a t-shirt and a hat pretty much every day, sometimes a button up flannel or woven shirt or a sweater if it’s cold, I don't really have a lot of clothes. Everyone wears the same clothes they wore in high school anyway. (posted by: Millow)
Q. This is directed to those in university programs (business). How often do you wear suits, or just business casual or w/e? I realize that you don't wear a suit to class (or most don't) but do you need to at times? My brother is in college and when they have guest speakers come in they are told to "dress up". In addition, there are networking events ...? So basically how often do you "dress up"? (posted by: g93)
A. I did without a suit for my first year, but things do come up where you should have it. I managed with a couple dress shirts and ties, but you should invest in a suit now rather than later. If you're looking for a number, depending on how many conferences and networking events you go to, and interviews you get, I would say, anywhere from 4-10 times. (posted by: BigBMan)
For girls, try to have at least one pant suit with jacket and then a variety of more business-casual pieces: skirt, blazer, coloured-shirts ... depending on what you're comfortable with, I far prefer skirts over pants. It's definitely an investment - you'll end up using all these pieces (and buying more) for summer jobs. Also, try to bring some semi-formal [at]tire (short dresses). There's a semi-formal dance at the end of Frosh Week, an annual Commerce Semi and a lot of conferences include semi-formal occasions. (posted by: QueensHSL2011)
