Tips for Potential Grad Students: Kinesiology

By Angela Thompson

1. Go on-line*, check out the universities you are interested in to see if they have an expert in the topic area you wish to study further.

2. Send an email to potential supervisors.  This introductory email should include:

a. Who you are, your academic background (i.e., honours students studying … )
b. an indication that you are interested in graduate studies and that you would like to further study ...
c. a question that asks “are you taking any new graduate students next year?”

3. Once you hear back – positively – from potential supervisors, schedule a time to talk over the phone – and if that is a positive connection, consider an on-sight visit.

* should happen early in your 4th year … i.e, October or November – so that you can apply early enough to be considered for ‘in-house’ scholarships which are normally determined in early January.
