Tips for Potential Grad Students

By Bertha Garcia

1. Do some ground work before applying: the web, word of mouth, emails to potential supervisors, etc.

2. Try to contact a current student in the program and ask for info re: learning environment, opportunities, etc.

3. Reflect on your ultimate career goals and make sure they mesh with the discipline.

Bertha M. Garcia, Vice Dean of Education, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Professor and Chair of Pathology, The University of Western Ontario, and 3M National Teaching Fellow.
