Why Employers Hire Business Grads

By Arshad Ahmad

Business students who have consistently performed well academically tend to do a lot more in getting employers interested in them. For example, a student in the finance co-op will have spent 4 work terms with 4 different employers during their bachelors degree. Some of these could be overseas.

Employers look for the confidence you have gained as a result of your extracurricular activities. They are looking for highly motivated, organized, career-oriented individuals who have learned to form their own opinions on a variety of general topics. These topics are the issues and challenges that their generation inherits including market failures, excessive pay, sustainability, conflicts, ethical dilemmas, technoliteracy, etc.

Networking skills are not enough. You must read widely, learn from a variety of activities especially those outside Canada and gain a perspective on how to make the world a better place to live in.
