I talked to some of the professors during March break before I got in, they send out planning offers pretty late and apparently they got a ton more applicants than they usually do this year :) and I got in with an average of 89-ish (I think) so you should definitely get in after midterms!

What made you guys want to get into this program? I know this is a really unspecific question, but what do urban planners do? Also, what makes Waterloo's program so much better?

I applied to Waterloo Architecture, but seeing how competitive it is I don't really expect to get in. Most people that apply there get an acceptance to Urban Planning, as well. Just want to know what it's about and if I should consider it, thanks :)

Hey! I've been accepted to Waterloo Planning also after being refused Waterloo architecture. I got in with an 88% average first semester. I've applied to other places for architecture but still waiting. I wanted to know though some information about this program at Waterloo and how it's like. Any information will be helpful, thanks!

There are many aspects to Planning... depends what you want to go into. Some people work for construction companies; They have to know Planning Law and make sure whatever that company is building follows the building laws in each city or town.

Another job could be the government, where you decide and administrate what can be built where to accomodate the needs of the city.

Personally I want to do Transportation planning (subway systems, bus routes etc)

Planning sounds exactly like it is; You plan the city (or contribute to it in some aspect).

Planning won't make as much money as a good engineer or architect, but often many people don't choose this route, so getting a job for this maybe a bit easier as oppose to the hundreds of people who are going to be engineers. Personally, I wanted to apply for Electrical Engineering but I didn't like sciences so... :P

Hey!
so waterloo said that in a few weeks i'd get a package listing conditions if any, that i'd have to meet.
But I want to know asap so I can see if it's do-able cause i'm pretty sure my marks have dropped since midterm..

if anyone already got their package can you please tell me what the mark that you have to have by finals is ?

Thanks!

Late reply but I thought I'd contribute anyway.

Applied to Life Sciences and Physical Sciences, changed my mind at around late February, reapplied to Environmental Planning with whatever I had at the time (94%) and got in around March..? (My last post in this thread!) I regret making my decision way too late since I could have taken Earth Sciences instead of all three typical Science courses of Chem, Bio, and Phys :(

Anyone ranked their res yet? Would anybody recommend St. Paul LLC? :)
