How is first year so far? Is it as fun as I imagine it to be? What's the hardest part in your opinion?

RTA is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I never really expected how much it would impact my life. I mean, when I got accepted, I just about passed from my excitement, but I hadn't really thought about the overall picture. I think all of RTA 2015 can safely say Radio and Television Arts is more than just a program. It's a lifestyle. We are all family (including the professors and staff members) and we have all formed bonds that go outside of the classroom. Aside from sounding completely sappy, I don't have one negative thing to say about it, because honestly- it's helped me become such a better person. RTA has its own kind of people. It's hard to describe until you get here (it took me after reading week to fully understand it) but you will never meet a group quite like your classmates.

I had my Television Studio lab today. Fun can't even describe it.

Can't wait to meet you next year! I'm Dawsyn, by the way :)

Hello beautiful froshies!

First of all I want to congratulate everyone who's gotten in. It's a tough program to get in to and it's really special so, give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done! To those who haven't gotten in yet, don't worry there's still plenty of time and there's still the waitlist. I know people who got in even when they were on the waitlist.

First year is really fun and exciting cause you get to learn about all the different things you can do in RTA. With that said, it is a lot of hard work. You have production classes, writing classes and lectures for RTA and also, you'll have your liberals and English classes. It's a lot of classes but, it also means you'll be spending time with the greatest people you will ever meet - your profs, staff members and of course, classmates! Seriously, RTA is a family. Everyone gets along really well and we spend our breaks playing nintendo or watching storage wars/whatever is on the A&E channel or family feud. We also have lots of get togethers at the Ram (ryerson pub) which you all are invited to!

I can't wait to meet you all in September!

This is to those that got accepted already, what's the average that was on the conditional offer, the average you have to maintain? By the way congratulation :)

Hi everyone! I'm really happy for everyone that has gotten in to the Radio and Television program. Ever since Grade 9 I have wanted to be in the Radio and Television program. I have gotten in to the Arts and Contemporary Studies Program at Ryerson, and I'm still waiting for Radio and Television.

I've heard of a lot of people who are getting in and not accepting because they are interested in Journalism, or other programs. Are any of you going to be declining your offers? Has anyone been told they have not been admitted?

Thanks!

I still never understand people that pick Jschool over RTA but I know usually kids just wanna run away from Toronto and go to Western :/ anyway...
I believe they don't "reject" but waitlist. RTA's waitlist is quite extensive yet very active, as you said, a lot of people choose to go to other schools /reject their offers(crazy folks.)

Hope you get in !
pm me if you don't hear anything after May.

Thanks for the info! I was wondering because I've never seen/heard of anyone NOT getting in, just wait listed. I've accepted my offer to Arts and Contemporary Studies for now, until something comes in from RTA.

I'll be sure to PM you if I don't hear anything.

Thanks,

Kabir

Just another quick question; what if I'm in another program at Ryerson, and they let me know in September that there is a spot- do I just switch? Or does it get complicated? Any ideas?

Okay, so if you accept to be waitlisted for RTA (which YOU MUST) while accepting an offer at Ryerson, and you end up getting a spot in RTA, then the transfer is easy & fast.

However, there's rarely a case where a spot opens up in September for RTA(it's usually up till late August) but if it does open up at anytime, you're still smooth sailing! You might have to pay another 1000$ deposit on top of the deposit you had paid for your program (assuming) Arts & Contemporary Studies.

G'luck.

I got wait listed today. Does anyone know what the chances are like of me getting accepted?

And I don't get how this works - I've accepted an offer to Arts and Contemporary Studies for next year, which means I'll be at Ryerson (thank goodness!). How will they tell me if I get a spot in RTA? I'm actually really worried. I'm trying to convince myself that it's a good think that I at least got wait listed!

Oh boy, being on a waitlist is ridiculously nerve-racking. I guess it's officially the waitlist period :/

They'll call you or e-mail you if there's a spot that opens up for you, once you accept it, Ryerson will cancel your A&CS enrollment and you can call undergraduate registration/services to confirm the change. Getting waitlisted is much better than rejection.

You never know your chances!

If you want more info on program switch PM me. GOODLUCK

Hello,
My name is Nike and I have just started my senior year at high school. RTA is my dream program and I cannot see me ending up anywhere else at the moment. My passion is music and audio production but I am also passionate about storytelling through film. Last year I got the chance to intern at a small Toronto recording studio and I currently volunteer at my church as the camera operator and switcher (weekly service, and occasional concerts). I have also just started volunteering at my local Rogers TV. Last year, I got the chance to take a Ryerson University Popular Culture course to get a taste of what Uni's like. (i passed). Finally, I have started the first ever Broadcasting Club at my school. I have wanted to be in RTA for over a year now, I am desperate to get in. i really am. What can I do from now till I apply?

Thanks

Sounds like you are doing everything right !

However it is an extremely tough program and no one of us can really say what else you should be doing.

I was wait listed for the September 2012 start and I was absolutely devastated. I started my year at Humber studying film in their BAA program but FINALLY on September 7th the called and said there was a spot available. They told me that I was not wait listed because I was "not as good" as the other candidates but simply because "the other candidates were luckier" and that essentially I was "luckier than the other wait listers for being called"

Anyways, I did end up switching and I am so happy. It's a great program so far and I've only been here a week, however Humber's program is great too if FILM is what you want to do. I was really more interested in television.

Keep doing what you're doing and spend time writing your essays when application time comes.
