Hey world, To summarize, I've gotten into UBC's faculty of Arts, SFU's TechOne program and Carleton's Interactive Multimedia and Design program... Ultimately I want to be doing graphic design, VFX, 3D modeling and animation, etc. In terms of a career, something in the movie industry would be preferred... (I was thinking VFX) UBC doesn't really have anything related...Computer Sciences is too techy for me... it's just, UBC. I think I've heard that SFU may be a better school than Carleton, but would anyone have any insight on their actual programs? From what I've looked into the IMD program seems better in terms of the specific courses that I would be taking. It's a collab degree with Algonquin (grad with a diploma and a degree) Opinions?? **BTW I live in Vancouver so Carleton means moving a looong way. Any insight on going away for uni and Carleton's residence life in general would also be appreciated! Thanks! Carleton University: BIT - Interactive Multimedia & Design

I definitely think if I chose to stay in Vancouver that I would take SFU over UBC... Solely based on program. Carleton University: BIT - Interactive Multimedia & Design

As someone going to Carleton next year, I'd say to pick SFU. Carleton isn't particularly known for that program and SFU is somewhat known for that field. I'd say that if you actually know what you want to do, don't just go for a plain, old Bachelor of Arts(The reason I'm moving from BC to Ottawa rather than going to UBCO). I chose Carleton because it's well known for public policy, which is what I'm doing and has great automatic scholarships, because even if I were to do something else I think I'd go to school out East regardless. In your situation, it's a simple cost vs benefit thing. UBC, close to home so it's cheap, but not the program you want. SFU, program you want (possibly better than Carleton's) and close to home so it's cheap. Carleton, program you want(possibly not as good as SFU's) and far away so it's expensive and tuition at Carleton doesn't come cheap. Carleton University 2016 - Public Affairs and Policy Management

I meant the Bachelor of Arts at UBC mentioned. UBC is a great university, don't get me wrong, and if what you want to do actually requires a Bachelor of Arts then you should get one, but if you have an interest in a particular field, which the OP obviously does, then go for that particular field. UBC's great rep shouldn't take priority over the program that the OP wants. Carleton University 2016 - Public Affairs and Policy Management
