Which one has better job prospects? Better chances of getting a good coop placement in first year and onwards?
How does the workload compare and which of these two will have more physics (ignoring that all engineers take 1st/2nd year physics courses), but how does the extent and difficulty level compare.
I'd really appreciate the input of students who are already in these programs at waterloo.

currently mechatronics has the more job prospects, which is quite understandable since its essentially in the robotics industry. nanotech is a lot larger now than it was years back when the program first started, and its only going to grow as the years pass. im not sure about the stats for first year tron students in coop, but 1st year nanos as of now is roughly 50% employed, which is higher than a few other programs, and on par with most other engineering programs currently with the exception of software.

nano focuses a lot more on chemistry and materials science, but there is still quite a bit of physics...first year we have general physics, so like force, energy, SHM, optics...2nd year we have e&m and quantum..3rd year we have statistical thermo...im sure theres more but i dont remember and dont wanna search it up..so u can do that.

finally, if ur choosing between these programs, think about what u really want to do, because these are 2 completely different industries

I think the key is exactly what adv4ntag3 said around the end, these programs are drastically different in their aspiration and their content. However it is important to be aware of some of the challenges you will face going into your field of study. Here I want to add that you must take my opinions with a grain of salt, as I am by no means an authority on this matter. In fact you should probably not take anyone's opinion too seriously and try to get as close to the facts you can your self. However adv4ntag3 rightly points out that your first co-op term will be difficult, case in point 50% employment rate for nano 1b. Employment difficulties go a bit beyond the rates from what I've heard in that it is difficult to find relevant jobs, especially for first years.
