This might sound kinda dumb and I'm not really sure if this should be posted under "real life"... Anyway, I was thinking about getting a tattoo on the back of my left calf where it's easy to hide. Still I'm worried that there would be full body examinations or something like that as a part of the medical school admission process and would lower my chances when they see the tattoo? Do any of you guys know if Ontario Medical schools do that kind of thing? McMaster Health Science 2016

Keep in mind that I have no real factual knowledge on this subject, but.... 1. Do medical schools require you to have a full body examination?? I doubt it. Someone please contradict me if I'm wrong. 2. Even if they did see it, rejecting you because of a tattoo seems completely ridiculous. That would basically be discrimination. And I'm sure there are PLENTY of doctors out there with tattoos. Queen's Arts '16 Chancellor's Scholarship Recipient

Depends on how apparent it is, and how much you advertise it. Though this determines their level of consideration. Maybe it's a world peace tattoo that they find riveting, and may even work to your advantage...though I wouldn't recommend such unconventional admission tactics.

Hahaha the thought of med schools requiring a full body examination makes me laugh. There is no way they could get away with doing that. Just don't get a tattoo on your face, neck, hands or maybe even forearms.

Well it may be unfair and discrimination, it can have negative effects. Because they would have no way of telling it, I highly doubt that it would affect your chances of getting in, but it can definitely make life harder. I personally know a nursing student who has a tattoo on her forearm and she had to keep it covered at all times during work. She is required to wear a long sleeve at all times, even if it is 30 plus degrees outside! I would recommend getting it in an easy to hide place to avoid these kinds of problems.

For Doctors I don't think so, but I heard Paramedics (which I wanna become) can't have any visible tattoos. Which kind of sucks because I wouldn't mind getting one, but then again I want to look as professional as possible. McMaster University - Honours Psychology, Neuroscience, & Behaviour (B.A.) '2016

If you're having second thoughts about getting a tattoo, might as well not get one.

Nope I don't think so, and I don't think it will hinder your chances of becoming a doctor. This example may be from a TV show but if you watched LOST(which is one of the best tv series ever), the main protagonist, Jack, he's a doctor, and he got a Tattoo. But he got it after med school and after a few years as a doc i think. Well personally I don't think a tattoo will hinder your chances to get into pharmacy or med school.
Are you considering international med school or Canadian med schools? I heard its harder to get into med school in Canada. I am not sure, that is what my friends have told me.

That has to be the worst argument I've ever heard on this forum LOL....but yes Lost is (was) a great show up until season 3/4. :) That's all I really had to contribute to this thread. I doubt it, but maybe buy a heavy duty concealer to cover it up just in case.

"Full body examination" to get into med school?! What?! I think you've been watching too much Couch Casting or attending some really shady admissions interviews...

There is no evidence it does so I don't know why anyone would think so. This forum, given it is filled with high school students and undergraduates, probably isn't the best place to ask though.
