Hi,
Thanks for taking a look at my question! x)
So basically what I wanted to ask was what is McMaster's Health Program looking for in an applicant?
I am really confused because some people are telling me you need to have a extreamly unique talent and be REALLY good at it.
For example be a "World Class Hula-Hooper" to really 'stand out' and along with that you need to have 95% and over grades? I just really like to swim XD
I would just really like to become a doctor or ATLEAST get into medical school!
I have pretty average grades, about 87-89% average but I am only in grade 9, so I hope I have time to pull myself together!
Thanks so much!

Whoa, I didn't get startled until I read that you were in grade 9 XD Well to start off they're looking for people like you! Haha, as in those who are path oriented. Being involved in the community, strong academic background, and extracurricular activities wouldn't hurt either.

To be considered you need to have a minimum of 90%. I'm not the person to ask as to why everyone tries to go in with a 95 though. Remember though, a 90 and a 95 mean different things at different schools. You might have a difficult school, so obtaining a 95 might be much harder than it is for someone at an easier school. For now, the best thing I can recommend you to do is to just briefly research the schools in Ontario and Canada, and what they offer. McMaster Health Science is an excellent program, but make sure you don't make it the only program you want to apply to, because it's really competitive (160/3000 students are given an offer of admission). So for now, work hard, and keep up those grades. You'll have to work harder in grade 11 and 12 to maintain a high average so keep that in mind as well.

Best of Luck in the future!

^ To add here, you can easily become a doctor by going to all kinds of undergrad schools so don't just focus on this one. Sure McM has better stats of med school placement but it's not necessarily causal: students strong enough to get into McM are those also more likely to be strong enough for med school. So don't buy the hype and be a sheep. Do what interests you the most, and apply to lots of places.

You don't have to be super talented. All you need is a minimum 90% average, and good writing skills for the supplementary application (3 essay questions). I didn't have to write down any ec's or awards down on my application so the admissions people won't know if you're really good at volleyball or something unless you choose to write about it.

To stand out, I think you have to be really honest. On my application I even wrote about some of my weaknesses :)
