Hey! I'm posting to see how many people on here are applying to this program.
I'm freaking out , and am extremely nervous about sending in my grade plus items.
Do you think you have a strong portfolio? why?
haha i'm curious if there are people as angst about this as I.
I also want to wish everyone the best of luck.

Hi there I too have applied for the RTA program and I feel as though I am on the same playing field as you seeing as i'm extremely nervous about whether or not my research essay/personal essay will meet the criteria for what they are looking for!

In fact I would love to swap research essays or personal essays just to see what other candidates are like, i'm quite curious!
Anyways, let me know or email me at stomasz@uwo.ca
Thanks :)

My sister applied to this program - I am rooting for her :)
Not sure if she would be open to share her essays - I will ask - I know she worked on those for months. Her research-based essay was on the classic pre-80s show topic (I Love Lucy). Originally, she chose the "medium is message" topic, but changed her mind after attending the info session with the program in the fall - they said most people pick that topic and they get really tired reading same/similar essay over and over again.

She also applied for Film Studies at Ryerson - that one is even more competitive, I think, and also required essays and portfolio. A lot of hard work!

I applied to this program too! I'm nervous because I really want to get in. I actually wrote my research essay on "the medium is the message". My media teacher looked over it and said it was very good so hopefully they like it. I can't stand possibly waiting until May to find out if I got in or not...

Wow...
everyone seems like they worked on their essays for months.
I literally did both of mine in a span of two days... two days before the 31st of January.
I didn't have time to work on them sooner.
That makes me nervous :(
I wish you all the Best of Luck! We should all update each other on our application progress...

My research topic was on Internet Regulation.

I applied for RTA too! I worked for months on the research for mine (probably because I wound up doing the media conglomeration topic), but I wrote most of it in the beginning of january, and then edited them right up to the very last day (:

Does Ryerson let you know if your portfolio is received?

:) No they don't let you know , which makes me really nervous...
I sent mine in two days before the deadline, I really hope they got it.
I wish you the best of luck love.

I wouldn't worry about it too much; some topics required more research than others. (For instance, the one about a classic tv show doesn't require too much research as opposed to analysis). Good luck to you too!

Here's their Ryerson Admission Twitter response to a question whether any acceptances have gone out for Film Studies: "Not yet! As there are portfolios involved, review of this program takes longer - generally offers go out in early May! ^SR"

I guess, the same would apply to any other grades-plus program, including RTA.

Hey! I applied to RTA too and I'm really anxious to know too. On the website it says may but they'll probably start sending out in march. May is usually the last string of people and those that are either waitlisted or rejected.

I applied for the RTA program too. My essay topic was how visual design enhances the radio and music. my personal essay is fairly good.I have been volunteering at Rogers TV for over a year. My references are Jennifer Robinson (host of a TV show at rogers TV and olympic figure skating ex-champion) and Glenn Coulson ( host of a TV show, music producer and executive associate of the Theatre by the bay)
What are my chances to get in? I am really nervous!

Hopefully we both get in and can be buddies! Haha
I don't know if it was good ,
I loathe rating my own work because i'm ALWAYS over critical of myself.
However it was good enough for me to feel confident sending it in... so :) I don't know.
