Hi, just wanted to know what GPA you entered with to the GB collab programs? What average should I aim for for secure admission? Thanks.

Averages vary each other. Last I heard, the average to get into Ryerson campus was in the mid 80s (GB and Centennial are slightly lower I think). Obviously, the higher your grade, the more likely you'll be considered acceptance. Which means there's no such thing as a "secure" admission. Even people given early acceptance are done so under conditional offers provided they maintain a specific average (not sure what the avg is though).

Here is something to keep in mind during the school year...competition!!!

1. Spaces are limited. Achieving a specific average will not guarantee you a placement!
2. More students are graduating every year in Ontario...which means more competition.
3. If you had excellent grade 11 grades, you may be given an earlier acceptance letter.

But don't be discouraged. Hard work pays off so do your best and apply to other schools as well! Have back up plans if things don't work out... will you stay in school another year? Apply to a different program? It's good to think ahead.

Good luck!

I know this is old but... I hope ANYONE who goes to Ryerson nursing can help me answer these...

1. What kinds of things do you do in your placements?
2. Where are your second year placements?

Thanks in advance! :)

1. What kinds of things do you do in your placements?

Well for first year, you are placed in a long-term care/geriatrics units or facility. You be doing basic care with the patient which is helping them get dressed, bathing them, mouth care, etc... It all depends on what patient you have and what they are able to do. You don't really take on much in first year because you have only learned about basic care.

2. Where are your second year placements?

The second year placements are in more acute units of hospitals or long-term care facility (ex. General Surgery, Medicine, Oncology, etc...). Here you begin taking in more responsibilities of an RN. This includes giving meds, doing head to toe assessment, etc...

If anyone is still replying in this thread, do you know where placements are for third and fourth year?

Also, I'm a post-secondary student finishing my first year and I applied late to Ryerson. The only site still opened on OUAC that was accepting applications was GB. Since I applied later than most, will this affect my chances of getting in - especially since they only accept a certain amount of transfer students? My high school average was 84.5.

I'm currently in grade 11 nut I'm planning to apply for Ryerson & Mac for nursing but if you don't mind me asking: When you were in grade 12 what courses did you take, and the marks you got to get accepted for Ryerson (main site) Nursing? I'm planning to take Chem, Bio, Physics, Adv. Func, Calc, World Religions, and Band for the full year next year (I go to a non-semestered school), but at the same time I'm not entirely sure what I want to be-- a nurse or a chemist so that's why I'm taking physics and calc. Is it advisable to take Exercise Science?

Additionally, what are you currently doing as a 1st year nursing student at Western? Do you guys get to have clinical experiences and for how long?
So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor and catch the trade winds in your sails.

Hey! Even though I'm starting nursing at Ryerson this fall, I can help you. Let me just tell you...don't become a chemist LOL. My mom is a chemist, and she has a masters degree in chemistry and she has advised me from the beginning of time to not go into chemistry. It's hard to find jobs, and most of them involve lab work with hazardous chemicals and getting paid very little...She's working for a pharmaceutical testing company and getting paid $20 an hour with a lot of stress! DO go to nursing :D If you really have a burning passion for chemistry, go become a pharmacist instead. Also, if you're sure you want to do nursing, don't take physics or calculus. I dropped physics this year after realizing I don't need it at all and took philosophy instead. Ryerson nursing actually recommends philosophy and it will help you a lot with critical thinking. I'm taking calculus right now and seriously, if you're going into nursing, theres absolutely no need for it. Everyone in my class are either going into engineering, U of T life sci or business. Oh and I got accepted into Ryerson in Jan based on gr.11 marks (93, my friends got in at the same time with high 80's). And I heard exercise sci is helpful in anatomy
Applied to:

Ryerson Nursing (main site): Accepted
McMaster Nursing (main site): Accepted
UWO Nursing (main site): Accepted
University of Toronto Life Science: Accepted

Hey!

I'm currently in my first year at Ryerson in ACS, I want to switch into the nursing program at Ryerson but I need to complete my grade 12 Bio and Chem over the summer.
I was just wondering if anyone knew how hard it was to transfer from another Ryerson program into Ryerson nursing or would i just be better to try to apply instead of transfer.

My high school average was an 83 and I passed my AP placement exam for english, but I still need to complete my bio and chem.
Should I try to get into a college like George brown for a year and then try to transfer? Any advice would be great!

thanks! :)
