Wow, this thread turned mean awfully quickly .... I just want to say that I'm SUPER excited for my prom. And for everyone saying that they're "above it", I think you need to get over yourselves. I'm going with a group of friends, although technically with my best guy friend as my date. I'm not stupid or brainwashed. I don't expect it to be perfect or the culmination of my high school experience. It's just a fun night to get dressed in formal wear (which teenagers don't really get to do). As for costs ... I'm starting to realize just how much my school overcharges. Our prom tickets are $160 and we have a $35 grad fee for cap and gown and stuff. Plus, IB students are having our "IB grad dinner", which costs $35 per person (and parents come too). That's on top of it costing about $1000 over four years in exam and registration fees for IB ... Makes me glad my parents are paying for some of this :P Dalhousie Political Sciences & History 2015

Last year my ex took me to his prom... (and I go to myn this year)and my nickname from it is Cinderella. 1) I went from looking very dark.. (not emo but not punk or goth, like a mix) to a beautifull dress and rine stone jewlery 2) I danced 3) Stoped breathing 4) Was almost taken to the hospital 5) Dad came and got me at midnight.
Can't wait for my real prom.

you know, i wasn't very enthusiastic about prom until last night, when i asked my parents if i could go with my friend from a different school (that's right , to her he's just a FRIEND coughcoughcough) and she said yes without any major suspicions ... but people in my classes have been discussing their outfits for the night and who's going with who and one girl even told me that you're supposed to get your dress three months in advance , ._.; i don't see what the big deal is LOL .. but i guess it's a good thing that my mom already picked one out for me , ^^; University of Waterloo, Environment & Business 1B

hang out with your friends and have fun. that's going to make it the best time because this might be the last time you get to have fun with all your friends with you. i'm not going though, the upper part what i usually get when i ask what's so great about prom. my school is allowing parents to come, if they want - not the best idea!!! my cousin loved her. she went with her friends and in a limo. she just couldn't stop talking about it.

I am really excited for my prom. I mean, it's not like it's anything overly special to me: it is only a dance, right? But I am looking forward to spending the night with my best friends, have a nice (hopefully edible)dinner, dance a little, and move on. And as for cost, our school has it pretty cheap (considering we are renting out a nice place in Ottawa for it), $80/person - yet it still kind of kills me to pay that much- though I feel better about it when I see how much some of you have to pay! And I only got my dress for $50 dollars because the formal dress store in my town was closing/moving to another location, so the dress was 80% off (a miracle!). And my school wants $60 dollars for cap/gown rental/purchase and for the grad retreat, among other things, but anyways. Anybody notice the money pit that is high school? Awwwe, this thread got pulled up from last year! I remember prom last year. I think the most fun part was getting ready with all my friends; that was half the fun of prom. Prom itself is.. mehhh... overpriced hotel food and some tacky speeches.. Oh, where has the time gone... University of British Columbia '15 Bachelor of Science Major in Biology
