LOL well apparently U of T doesn't have a great social scene but I'm not overly concerned about that, I'm sure I'll meet some people!

What program did you apply for?

Same lol, Like c'mon it can't just be 3 people on this entire forum who like Metal...

On a side note, I wish I had the time and money to be able to start a band, I always wanted to be in a band but unfortunately I can't afford a half stack amp and I'm busy with school.

So what are some good local bands that you guys know?

Just hope my roommate is someone who appreciates music, not some ignorant little kid.

Ha. Bands. Brings back memories. I used to be in one way back in the day. Guitar and backing vocals from age 12-15. Thinking back on it, I cannot believe how young we were at the time. Kind of hilarious actually because, looking back, I actually really sucked despite taking lessons for years. Our drummer moved away, though, and we couldn't find a replacement. Eventually we realised we weren't very good anyway, lol, and so I stopped playing.

Good local bands... I have two that I quite enjoy. Maybe I'm bias, though, because the guys are friends of mine from high school. One of them is more on the metal side while the other is on the pop-punk side.

I did take a tour of Waterloo! I wasn't able to attend the Open House, though, so I never got to meet the professors or know much about them. I recommend going here though if you want some insight on the profs. Just narrow down by faculty/subject and you'll get all sorts of ratings.

As for the people, everyone was incredibly friendly. I got to talk to students, not just the tour guides and everyone made me feel quite comfortable and excited to go there. I also found there to be a very diverse group of people. All I read on these forums is people saying how there are 'too many Asians,' but that seems silly. I saw more Caucasian individuals than anything else, but there was a nice mix of many ethnicities as well as what appeared to be an even mix of genders. And just based on all the clubs that UW has -- I obviously checked it out which is why I know they have a metal club -- there are people with a very wide variety of interests that are non-academic.

Personally, I really liked the campus. It was probably a lot larger than I would have wanted if given the option, but I am so in love with the particular program offered there that I can overlook this without problem. Many of the buildings are quite dated looking, but what do you expect from a 50 year old institution? Even so, because it is on the newer side, the campus and its buildings are in a much nicer state than some universities. I love the creative approach that they took when planning the buildings. For example, the psychology building's interior is modeled after a brain, and there is a computer science/engineering building modeled after a microchip. Very cool inside. And the newer additions such as the environment studies building is gorgeous. Also really nice is that the campus is really well contained. Even so, there are several Timmies EVERYWHERE<3. Despite its size, everything is packed really close together and within the university there are no parking lots to get in the way. Very pedestrian friendly. I also adore that there is a lot of greenery everywhere. Trees, grass, etc rather than a strictly industrial, concrete environment. I quite liked seeing squirrels and geese everywhere. Speaking of geese, the rumors are true! Lol, geese are everywhere. Apparently some of them even stay the whole winter. As I walked around, they were honking and hanging out as if there wasn't people all over. While this maybe annoying in some instances, I thought it was pretty neat, lol.

And yes, there are an insane amount of geese. I think it gives the campus character, though! I don't know, I definitely see great charm in the campus. Honestly, I don't want to go anywhere else. It is pretty funny actually because when I was in grade 12 and looking at schools, Waterloo was my last choice. I wanted nothing to do with the place and swore I'd never go there... Then I took a year off, went to Mohawk, went to Sheridan, and am now desperate for Waterloo admission. Funny how things change.

Hmm, I know what you mean. I heard the same things. Honestly, I take those remarks with a grain of salt. Like, anywhere you go is going to be boring unless you put yourself out there. Plus, Waterloo can't be lame if their Frosh Week consists of foam parties. No matter what school you go to, you have to go to the party because the party won't come to you... Unless you go to 'Funshawe,' in which case the riot does come to you, LOL.

But seriously, I am a total believer that the social scene is what you make of it. Surround yourself with people who like to party, and actively go out looking for a good time and you will find it no matter what university you go to. And worse comes to worse, walk down the street to Laurier. We all know that no teaching actually goes on down there, just drunken good times... LOL, I'm horrible today. Dang. :P

As for all guys, I disagree. When I was there, I saw tons of girls. I also have a lot of friends who went to Waterloo straight from high school and only two of them are guys. The other six are girls. Plus, I'm a girl and I'm clearly heavily promoting the school. I don't even go there yet! I mean, maybe the faculty of science will have a lot more guys than girls -- and I know, I'm totally generalising which I shouldn't do, but I have a feeling more guys than girls in the sciences applies everywhere, not just Waterloo -- but who says you can't make friends outside your faculty?
