brady23 did not seem to start this one, so you guys can write stuff here. Expect the following to be covered: 1. Tools of Data Management (there isn't much to do with the rest of the course) 2. Data Analysis (Some of this is very basic, and you've seen some of this in grade 5, I think) 3. Trends/Regressions 4. Organized Counting using Permutations 5. Organized Counting using Combinations + Set Theory 6. Probability 7. Discrete Probability Distributions 8. Continuous Probability Distributions The world is not over and I'm still kicking butt!

Hey, do you guys have any ideas for a topic for the Data summative? BTW, its the one where you have to research and find a relationship between two variables. For ex. The relationship between a baseball player's size and his batting average. Some kid wrote 19 pages on that topic last year. :S

For external variables, I considered the amount of caffeine, commute to school, homework, time spent on extracurriculars and physical activity. My final report was 7 pages in length, and with all the statistics/data charts included, the entire project was 28 pages. It's really not that intimidating. The world is not over and I'm still kicking butt!

I'm taking this course right now, and just finished learning permutations, combinations, and probability. Now we're learning about statistics, indexes, etc. Any suggestions on how I can improve my marks in this course? I heard that the rest (all the things after we learn permutations and combinations) are going to be easier to get high marks in. Is it true? Applied/[Accepted]:

I got a 95 in it. The statistics unit is basically grade 9 math - scatter plots, line of best fit, extrapolation, that sort of stuff. It's really easy. The probability stuff is seriously the most interesting.

So many people say this is a difficult class but I have yet to see the validity of those statements

I want to take one course over the summer so that in day school I have a spare each semester.
Pls tell me and guide me if i should take English or Data in the summer, pls share your personal experience about summer school and how difficult it is compared to day school.

thanks. I'd say take ENG4U in summer school simply because a lot of my friends took it during the summer and ended up with preeety decent grades (its alot easier than day school). Also, MDM4U is better to be taken at day school. Also, MDM4U is better to be taken at day school. I'd have to disagree about English being easier in summer school. It can be if you're lucky and end up with an easy teacher, but generally, it is tougher because it takes time to full analyze literary works and make those thematic connections in your head. I tried taking ENG4U in the summer but I felt everything was so rushed. Even though I was getting an 89, I felt unprepared for future essays and the exam so I dropped it. Right now, in English this semester, I'm also getting an 89, but I feel I've gained a much stronger grasp of what I've been reading and learned so much more. I recommend doing some research on your teachers at your school and find out if they are difficult markers. If they are, then summer school would be a safer bet.

I'm finding it pretty stressful now.... I have a permutations quiz tomorrow and I really need to do well on it! I have a 90% but I know it's gone down from the last test :(
My teacher said it definitely wasn't the easiest 4U math :/
But my teacher's a hard marker so...
How are you finding permutations so far? The TIPS-style questions are killing me D:

Say I were considering taking some statistics courses at university. Would it be worth it to take MDM 4U, or would it be better to take a course I know I can do well in? Also, how much is it like the traditional maths? (MHF 4U/MCV 4U). Is it an easy course to get 90%+ in?

Yes it's definitely worth taking this course if you know you're going to be taking a stats course in university. I find this course to be much easier than Advanced Functions and Calculus and vectors, but that being said, like any other math course, you HAVE to do your homework daily if you want a good mark. It's quite different from the traditional maths, it requires a different level of thinking, a more logical thinking. But even if you're not a very good logical thinker, aslong as you do all your homework, you'll be able to manage a 90. I currently have a 92 in this course, and I don't even pay attention to the lessons in class anymore because I find them extremely boring, but aslong as you go home afterwards and look over the note, read the textbook and do the homework, you'll be fine. I've heard that people who have taken this course say it's pretty easy for the most part. I'm taking it next year in grade 11 so I just wanted to know if it would be more difficult than IB functions if I take data management at a university level and if I should take advanced functions&calculus in grade 12 as well. Also what would you recommend doing to recieve a good grade in data management?
