I'm thinking of switching career paths from the social services to the radio broadcasting industry. I have a BA in Social Science, but I'm not having much luck with it. I'm looking instead at college radio broadcasting programs, and I'm thinking of giving the industry a try. I'm just not sure as to what the job prospects are and what the market is like. If necessary, I don't mind relocating to another province, if that means that I'll find work. Any help/suggestions/advice? Thanks!

I'm not an expert at radio broadcasting, but my dad is a radio show host at a small, non-profit radio station. He's always telling me how, at the bigger radio stations, they hire loads of people, and they end up making a LOT of money.
I think a lot of those people are more behind the scenes than just announcers, so it depends on what angle you want to go at it. I'm betting that if you wanted to go into radio production/technology/marketing, you'd find a lot more jobs.
Hope this helped!

Before switching, check to see if your school have a community radio or school radio broadcast station and volunteer there. That might help with at least testing the waters to see if you would like to work in the environment and if you see a future with it.

The competition within the radio broadcasting market can seem volatile, but most of it is for entertainment.
