Hey I've already accepted an offer and wanted to set up my OSAP application. I know it doesn't start until May but I made an account earlier this year and haven't been able to sign on with that login. Everytime I try it redirects me to a "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" page and when I refresh I have to enter the same information in again. I have tried entering my challenge questions and the same thing happens. I was never told on the attempts that I was locked out. Should I fill out a new password request form? or just keep trying?

When do the applications for OSAP start, for fall 2012-2013??

This has been answered so many times I'm not answering it again.

Also, i am an only child of south asian descent, both my parents and i are canadian citizens. Together gross income is appx. $65,000. We do have an RESP & they have savings for me (not TOO much though). So, am i still eligible for OSAP? I'll be going to UofT, st. george for humanities in the fall!

You probably are eligible for something, but you won't know for how much until you complete the Aid Estimator or actually apply.

Why are you trying to log on if you know it's not open until May? That's most likely why you're getting the error message.

To encourage the use of this thread, I'll start with a bunch of Q&A's. I have a comfy government job where I'm working in an office during overnight hours 7 days a week. Note if you post a separate thread asking one of these questions, I will report your post as spam and refer you to this thread. And I will laugh at you. lol

When is the deadline to apply for OSAP?
A: 90 days before the end of your school year. So, if your school year ends April 1, you have until January 1 to apply.

Q: I only received $xx,xxx, why didn’t I get more?!
A: No one here can answer this question, so don’t bother asking. We’re not OSAP. OSAP uses the aid estimator to estimate how much money you’ll receive based on the figures you input. You may be able to appeal this amount.

Keep in mind OSAP is there to supplement your own money and your parents’ contributions. OSAP should not be paying for your entire tuition. Yes, you will have to work and save money and be smart with your finances.

Q: How do I submit my signature pages while Canada Post is on strike?
A: Via FedEx, Purolator, or UPS courier services. Yes, this will cost money. Yes, this sucks. Write the Canada Post union to thank them.

Q: Where do my signature pages go?
A: To your university’s financial aid office, as stated on the top of your signature pages, unless OSAP specifically states to mail them back to their offices.

Q: Can I just take the grants part of my OSAP loan?
No.

I like you. You're funny. Lol

hey everyone so i am in a pickle,i dont understand why osap is taking so long, how long after you apply would you know if you were approved? would they have asked for all that paper work if you did not get approved? my status says "file updated and funding recalculated. funding will not be released until required documents are received and approved" under the required documents it says that they need mine and my spouse's declaration and signature page, which i know they have as the school sent it 3 more times and emailed them asking if they got them and they said yes .at this point would I be approved or is there still a chance of being rejected? i am just worried because i applied in January because my classes started in march so we are a month and some into the class already..would my school let me start if they knew my osap was not approved ??? i don't know i think i am stressing as i was told by the lady who deals with osap that i could start, but if my osap is not approved and i dont have funding i would not be able to pay for what i have already done and the rest of the cost to go to school. if you know what i mean. i think i might be stressing over nothing... so if anyone could help i would really love you.lol. its not so much about getting the money right now as i know that wont happen but its about making sure that my school is paid for thats all i really wanted osap for.

Hi, all.

Recently I found out I inherited some money. However, it will stay in a trust fund account, so I'll be receiving half at 25 (in six years) and half at 30. AFAIK, the total amount still isn't known for sure and the accounts aren't made up yet, due to the will being in probate.

I'm just wondering if this is something I need to include as an asset/savings when I apply for OSAP. "Withdrawals from trust accounts" is listed under what counts as income, so do I only need to tell them if I take anything out of it? I think there is a bit saying that I can take some out early, but only at my aunt's discretion.

So do I need to list it as an asset, even though it isn't quite official yet, or just list what I'll be withdrawing from it as income? Thanks.

I don't think it counts as assets/savings, as you actually don't have access to it. Hence why they ask for "withdrawals" and not "total amount". You could contact someone as OSAP and ask if you're unsure

They've reassessed your file, so it means you've been approved for the reassessed amount.

Your school doesn't know anything more than you do. Obviously your school is relying on you to pay your tuition regardless of whether you get OSAP or not, so they don't care, they just want their money from someone.

Keep calling OSAP and asking for an update.

That's what it sounds like to me. You don't have access to the money for another 6 years, so it's not being withdrawn or used until that time.

I will be applying for 2012-2013.. while using the calculator it states to enter gross income. Do they require my estimated 2012 income, my 2011 gross income from my income tax assessment, or an average of the two?

It should tell you. I believe it's your estimated 2012 income - is this in the same space where it then asks to break down your income in the 4 months before school, during school, where you're living, etc.?

Hey has anyone applied for OSAP yet?
It's open now, but I'm wondering when the deadline is? I can't seem to find any deadline date(s) on the site.

There really isn't an official 'deadline', but I do recall that the website said that you should complete your application by the beginning of June, and send the required signed forms to the correct place by June 15th. I also read on the Carleton financial aid site that OSAP was changing one of their practices, so instead, the MSFAA needs to be filled out with your bank account and SIN number and be brought to a designated Canada Post place to proceed... It apparently replaces the Loan/Grant certificate, and apparently ets your money be directly deposited into the bank account to which you are connecting your OSAP. I really am not sure about the specifics, as I haven't actually gotten around to applying yet. I hope I've answered your question.

Yes, there is a deadline. It's on OSAP's website and has been posted here several times.

Hello folks,

I have applied for OSAP 2012-2013 year on May 1. Submitted the Master financial plan form and took it to designated post office. The Canada Post person was upset that she did not got any email from ministry that they have changed the form. Anyhow, I have to plead with her to accept my form :(

The other form went to school financial office. My question is that my osap status is saying" status will be available in late May" so what does it mean ?

I am a single mother and my osap was denied based on poor credit history, last year. I appealed and explained my situation and personal struggles ( victim of abuse and all). Only then my OSAP was accepted. I am in the second year and really want to finish my degree. But its not possible without OSAP assistance. Any thoughts ???

Thank you in advance. God Bless
