I couldn't find any spare discussion topics, which lead me to create this one. How do you spend your spare(s)?

My spare is in period 1 (semestered school). I use it sleep in or get work done, at home. When I do this, I like bike to school. However, if the weather is bad, or I have to go to school early (like to see a teacher) I spend my spare in my friend's MCV4U class.

Sorry I can't add to what I do in a spare since I don't have one lol.

I'm in grade 11 and my courses for grade 12 are:
ENG4U
FSF4U
HSB4M
MHF4U
MCV4U
CIA4U
CLN4U
BOH4M

And I'm thinking about having a spare instead of law.... I didn't take grade 11 law so I'm slightly worried I'll struggle with grade 12!
Do you think I should have a spare? Do you manage to actually get some work done lol?

Whether you should take a spare or not depends on what you want to do after high school. Don't take courses that are irrelevant to your program unless you really have to.

And yes I do get work done when I don't sleep in. If I'm at home and awake, I'm not tempted to talk to my friends, and have better computer access; I can easily focus on assignments. If I go to school early I spend my spare in my friends' period 1 MCV4U class doing review. I have MCV4U period 4.

I personally have 3 spares this school year, as I've completed several grade 12 courses in previous years or currently through eLearning. Although I don't necessarily do anything during my spare most the time, it's just a relief to not worry about an extra course and a heavier course load. In my opinion, if you happen to not need the course for university or graduation purposes, drop it.

I have one spare this year, dropped my world history class the second week of school.

My spare either falls on period four or period five. So I either just leave early or go to the library and do work.

Spare activity generally looks like this for most people

Period 1 - Sleep in.
Period 2 - Hang out with people who have period two lunch.
Period 3 - Hang out with people who have period three lunch.
Period 4 - Work or do nothing.
Period 5 - Go home or work or do nothing.

It`s actually so tempting sometimes because I could skip one class and then just go home after period 2. cheers

I will sound like a very sad person here, but I have first period spare (semestered school) and I do homework. Because I honestly always have something to finish the next morning for class, and never get to actually relax. On the bright side, I don't have to worry about keeping my grade up in an additional class, and my taking a spare has no effect on my university acceptance, as I am taking the prerequisites in my 7 classes this year... So....

when i had a first period spare (every second week), i always rolled into school like thirty minutes after my spare started and managed to get work done anyway. it's just nice having an extra little bit in the mornings, but i don't need a whole hour. i will agree though that when your spare is nestled in between classes you're kinda forced to do work, which is often a good thing.

I hardly know anyone that legitimately does work during their spare consistently... Maybe if a test is coming up in the next few periods, but other than that, we generally have a ton of students with a spare (probably close to 50) so there's always people to chill with.

I'm in 10th grade right now and going into 11th next year.
I don't think I would ever get a spare. Mostly because I don't really need it and I would like to have more chances at getting courses for my top 6 for university early acceptance.
Plus, there's also the fact that I have 7:15 band/choir rehearsals in the morning and rehearsals after school, almost every day so the sleeping in or going home early wouldn't apply to me.
And I wouldn't take my chances to get double lunches either mostly because I find it highly unlikely it'll be at lunch.

Having at least one spare will save your life in Grade 12.

Nah, I'm kidding, but I love my spare. I never actually get enough sleep so I tend to sleep in during my spare. And since I have my spare after lunch, I sacrifice my social life and run straight home as soon as that bell rings for the end of second period! compress

I didn't have a single spare the first month of second semester though, then I dropped a course and that was the best decision I've ever made in my high school career.
