I was rejected by Queen's University.

I had a 90+ Top 6.

My PSE was reviewed by at least 6 people who all said it was the best they had read. You can inbox me if you want to read it and check if it's utter crap. If it is, I can rest in peace. But in my honest opinion, it was good. I cannot FATHOM why I was rejected.

Queen's was my light at the end of the tunnel. It was EVERYTHING I looked forward to. It was my absolute top choice above every single university.

The only flaw in my application was that some of my other marks other than my top 6 were not above 80. But isn't that irrelevant to a university's evaluation?

I will call them on Monday and ask them why. This meant everything to me and I am literally a mess right now.

Its tough, but this is why you have second choices. Take the weekend off and try to forget it. Queens is not the be all and end all.

Hey Grace, based on the bit of information you've given, I think your extra-curriculars seem quite impressive. Sorry to hear that you didn't get in; try not to be too hard on yourself though! If you'd like some more opinions your PSE, feel free to shoot me a PM. I've proofread a couple of my friends' QC essays and one out of three were accepted, with one pending.

I've pm-ed you about my PSE. I couldn't sleep last night. I can't let my dream school slip away just like that. Do you think they ever make mistakes in evaluating my application? What if they thought it was incomplete for some reason when it was? Can I appeal? I need to do something! I keep checking this thread once every two seconds for any hint of hope that I can hold on to until Monday comes.

Hey Grace, let me hit you up with some blunt truths of reality.

1) There is no university in the world that has a foolproof and perfect admissions process. There will be people that deserved an offer who didn't get one, and vice versa. That's the reality of not just university admissions but everything in general. Good people sometimes get shafted through unfortunate circumstances, and sometimes bad people catch a lucky break and still squeeze themselves onto the train.

It is for this reason that you apply to multiple universities and have several top choices as well as backups. No matter how sure you are that you'll get into a university, it would be silly to apply to only that one program at that one university just because it's your top choice and you think you're a shoo-in for an offer.

2) From what I've heard, Queen's rejections have already started rolling out. This is pretty early since most universities are still rolling acceptances and only Queen's has actually begun finalizing and confirming rejections. If you choose to appeal, know that you are very likely not going to be the only one, and in all honesty, I doubt that it will bear any fruit to do so. The most you can do is check your OUAC to make sure your marks went in properly, and not much after that. When a university makes a decision, the only time it's reversed is when something happens with marks; if the wrong marks were fed in and they need to reconsider the application again, or if the marks drop catastrophically and they need to reconsider the validity of their offer. The judgement on your supplementary is unlikely to change.

3) From a purely hypothetical perspective, competitive averages and performances on supplementaries as well as overall applicant strength can vary from year to year, and it could just be that this year the tide was high and a LOT of very qualified people applied. You might have made it in according to last year's competitive averages and extracurricular activities, but perhaps not this year.

I'm sorry to hear this, and I feel for you. This isn't just going to go away and you're going to need some time to mull and take it in. I understand that. My advice to you is don't try to chase this, don't become bitter and angry or try to send angry letters to Queens, but don't try to ignore or push it aside either; just take it in and over the next few weeks you'll slowly learn to live on.

As an aside, what other programs and universities have you applied to? Note that if you didn't have any reasonable backups you could always take a fifth year.

And while I'm curious to know the entire contents of your application (the courses you took, marks in each course, extent of extracurricular activities, and supplementary) I feel like that would only aggravate your current condition. I think the best thing to do for you right now is to force yourself to not check this thread anymore, because you're going to be torturing yourself and driving yourself towards insanity each time you do.

Good luck with your endeavours.

Were your pre-reqs under 80%? If so that is the reason you were rejected.

Another flaw (not necessarily flaw, but something that would put you under others) is your lack of team or individual sports experience. At the open house, I talked to a lot of the fourth years and many of them had some kind of sports background in highschool and university. Also, a lot of the kids that have gotten in so far are part of track, volleyball, soccer - even ultimate frisbee. I'm still pending, but I think one of the strongest parts of my application is my competitive swimming experience. I've even tried contacting the coach about swimming varsity.

With that said, I still think you have a very impressive application as you hold a lot of leadership roles. Pm me your essays I'd love to take a look.

@ SkylarNoeL: Thank you so much for your reply, I think this thread actually helped me calm down a little bit. I applied to a bunch of schools and I've been accepted by: Laurier Double Degree (Financial math), UBC Sauder, Dalhousie, Western BMOS (Still waiting for AEO.. don't know how to check its status), waitlisted for Notre-Dame (but this is hopeless). I know McGill and Schulich won't accept me. My average stinks like armpit oil.

The best option I have right now is UBC Sauder.. but I want AEO much more.

@BudsFan: No, my English was 91, Data Management was 91, and Calculus was 90. By the way, I don't know if it was my grade 11 marks that screwed me over. My marks sucked in grade 10 and 11 (I was getting 60s) and in grade 12 I really worked my arse off to achieve an average ov 90.83. Because I really. Really. Really wanted to be successful.

@Garethdomingo: You're right.

Also, I pm-ed some people here my PSE before I sent it, but someone told me that it's possible that another person stole my PSE and thats why I was rejected? I don't think this is the case but ... is it really a possibility? This is the internet after all.

did you get an email from ivey last week about being impressed with your supplementary? if you did then you'll probably get ivey status since your average is above 90.

A 60 in Gr. 11 might have sunk you. If I were admissions, 60's in Gr. 11 are a pretty big red flag.

But that was mostly in grade 10, and I fasttracked math so I did grade 11 math in grade 10. In grade 11, I was taking Ad Func and Calc, which were 82 and 90 respectively. So my marks were 67-82-90. I thought it would be a plus for universities to see that I had worked very hard to overcome obstacles. Shouldn't they not be looking at grade 11 anyways?

@Beiber: NO!!!! I didn't! That's why I was freaking out. Does this mean I won't get in? A lot of people with worse averages/ECs have gotten the email, but not me! I swear I'm contacting depression right now.

At least you'll get 30bucks if you don't get in.
Okay all jokes aside there's nothing you can do now so just pray for the best,go to church or something.
You don't want to be as lame as me worrying about acceptances everyday right?
So cheer up.
