There are plenty of people who listen to your type of music too. Nobody is ever a true original. I have to admit, I haven't been on this board since this post. Having randomly checked it today (for whatever reason), I feel the need to reply. I never said that I was a "true original" - I wasn't trying to make a point by posting my favourite bands, I was simply participating in the board. I am glad that I am not the only person who listens to these bands, or they wouldn't be able to put out albums or go on tours! That point aside, it was pretty ignorant of you to refer to my list as a "type" of music; it may seem to you like one type (especially if you have never heard of the bands and are used to a steady diet of pop-club-dance-hip hop), but it actually incorporates various genres such as metal, grunge, viking metal, black metal, stoner metal, symphonic metal, etc. Although I do gravitate towards heavier music in general, my taste is far too ecelectic to be classified as a single "type". Finally, it is true that most people listen to music which gets radio play - if no one listened, radio stations would not waste their time and money playing it. My problem with radio music is that most of it is very commerical and lacks any real artistic talent or passion. Having been a serious student of music for about 15 years, I think it is obvious that most of the music on the radio is very simplistic in its lyrics, rhyhthm, melody, and structure. It is often synthesized and multi-tracked, and manufactured for the sole purpose of appealing to the masses and making money. For many people, "my type" of music is incomprehensible or even scary because it takes them out of their comfort zone. I just happen to prefer music which uses real instruments, complex harmonies, and more intelligent lyrics, and which requires more hard work, talent, and training than pressing a few buttons on the computer and using an AutoTune machine.

It's true, the majority of people out there on a general basis don't like 'heavier' music. This ranges anywhere from stuff like Post-Hardcore to Metal of all sorts. Go on the facebook fan pages for artists like Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Drake and then compare that to bands in the metal genres and you'll see a significant difference in numbers. I don't care what anyone says, the majority of commercial pop & hip hop is horrid and people listen to it cause they're too simple minded to appreciate good music such as classical, blues, jazz, metal, symphony...
