Hi,

I've been admitted to U of T for engineering and I've been offered a spot in both University college and Chestnut Residence. I'm just wondering which one is the best option for me to get a room in. I know I'm going into engineering but I dont want to be studying 24/7, i want to have a good uni experience, parties and all. Chestnut's demographic is mostly engineers and Science students so I'm not really sure if it's going to be a diverse environment or not. It's also really far away from the campus so I'm not sure how I'll handle the transportation to and from uni everyday. I mostly want to know about which one has the most luxuries and perks and has a better environment.

Thank you.

Hey, I am going to U of T engineering too, but I haven't received the residence information yet.
I heard that Chestnut residence have really good meal plans and it is closer to downtown. The only downside is that first year students have to stay in a double room. I dont know what you think about this but I have been living in the dorm for three years and having to share a room was not the best thing. Apparently, Chestnut is not that far from the campus, most of the people I asked say it takes about 15-20 min to WALK. Both of them have meal plans, other than that, I don't know much about UC.

UC definitely. Lived in Morrison for two years and also stayed in Whitney last summer.

My ex-boyfriend, who is also an engineer, lived in Chestnut (I visited him a lot when we were still dating so I know the place well enough). Yes, they definitely have better food, awesome queen-sized bed and a bathroom in each room BUT the place is depressing (dark brown wall paper and carpet in all the rooms) and it's a 10-15min walk to campus. I know it's not that far away and the walk is actually pretty nice during the summer, but wait till winter or when you have 9 am classes... you would rather live in UC because of the location. Well, the food in UC does not have as much variety as Chestnut, but it's okay. Also UC is a lot cheaper than Chestnut and very likely you will get a single room ( over 90% of the rooms in UC are single).

Morrison Hall is new, shinier and nicer looking than any other residence I have visited on campus (probably the same as Woodsworth), while Whitney hall is homey and very traditional English-style dorm. Sir Dan is alright but I find the place a bit depressing.
Anyway, people said that Morrison Hall is probably the least social res among the 3 residence, and yes it is true because the common rooms are not connected like the one in Whitney. But to be very honest, your experience in residence life is what you make out of it. I recommend you to do a tour in the UC res, they have it every day just go ask the porters (I am actually one of them!).

AND you will definitely meet more people outside Skule if you're living in UC.

Hello,

At UC residence (Morrison Hall), can you stay during the holidays (Dec. something to Jan. something). I'm not planning to stay the whole break, but definitely for 3 days.

I really wanted to live off-campus, but my circumstances are forcing me to fill that rez form...

Thank you in advance.
