I took core french in elementary and a high school class but I don't remember any. Anyone know if that will be a big issue for me since it has to most native French speakers in Canada per capita? I have to live with a host family as well. I just don't want to get there and be the only one who speaks none. you just got off the waitlist today? hey congrats! :) I doubt you would be the only one going in without any French knowledge at all, plus they group you in classes according to a placement test! It will be tough at first for sure, but I would view it as a really good experience to learn and improve your French really fast. chicoutimi spring was on my top 3 and I'm still waitlisted so if all goes well maybe I'll see you there :D Yes I just got off the waitlist yesterday! So there is still hope!! I was not expecting it at all. Ya I decided to go, I am sure I will have a good time no matter what, but hopefully someone can translate for me the first week hahaha. Good luck!

Don't worry, I got off the wait list about a week ago, going to La Pocatiere, but is anyone going there travelling from Toronto? I'm having problems convincing parents to send me because of the travelling, if there is a facebook group if they could post it, I would greatly appreciate it!

Hey guy! I'm Riley.
I'm going to Univeristé Laval this Summer! I'm beyond excited to travel to Québec City and meet everyone (oh yeah, and learn). I really don't know what to expect, so tell me your experiences if you've done the Explore Program before! I'm most curious about our level of freedom, I'd love to bike around for hours by myself. Would that be a hassle?
Thanks!

And Riley, you had asked about how much freedom you get with this program... I guess it all depends what you mean by that. I know that every institution is. I see that the program is an 18+ so I would imagine that there would be no curfew if that is what you mean...
If you are talking about timewise... some institutions are more stricter than others about mandatory evening activities (some will say that you have to attend more that others where others will have more optional ones).. but I guess you will see when you get there. I have done one program where I felt like I had almost no free time (then again, I was 16 so maybe they made it that way so we would stay out of trouble and stay safe) and I have also been to one where I had a decent amount of free time and the evening activities were recommended but we didn't have to sign up for them if we didnt want to.
As for renting a bike and riding it, lots of people do that in Explore. I personally am scared of it because the way a lot of Quebecois drive. Then again, if you are from the a big and busy city you are probably used to it. I am from the prairies and used to calm and quiet traffic. Im not sure how that would work with the residence but I guess you will have to see when you get there.
Have fun in Quebec!
