As it has been initiated, my own shameless plug: I have my Chem textbook+solutions manual, a Chem lab-book (plenty of pages left), and an i-Clicker to unload :D Congratulations to everyone coming into our BHSc family next year (assuming you accept your offers). If you have any questions or concerns about anything at all, feel free to send me a message :) And to those who did not receive offers, I know it's not an easy thing to accept--especially after such a lengthy wait--but know that not receiving 1/200 spots does not negate your achievements or other university offers. There are so many different paths to any one long-term goal, and the ability to adapt to changes in your immediate plans is what will guarantee your success in the long run. P.s. My average was 98.3% and I did not take any summer school courses. I don't think the average matters as much as the essay though! Bachelor of Health Sciences '16 McMaster University

I got rejected. Sucks knowing that your best wasn't good enough. But i'll be going to Mac for Life Sci. Congrats to all those who got accepted though! Health Sci is a fantastic program and I'm sure you'll all love it. Not even going to consider bashing BHSc or Mac because it's phenomenal. You all worked very hard and deserve it! UTM Life Sciences I

Here's what not to do kids: Section 1 - Long Answer Response I have received many a judgmental stare while toting my Nintendo DS around school. It is pink, blindingly so, and shamelessly complete with a copy of the latest Pokemon game. While many eventually discontinue their use of such toys, I still see the time log for my game increasing at an exponential rate, now reading over seventy hours of play. That is almost three days spent alone with a bunch of pixels to ensure that my army of fictional Japanese monsters meets my satisfaction. While most would label it a childish obsession, I call it an enduring passion. These comments do not bother me because I love what I am doing. My dedication to anything I desire allows me break any and every expectation set because I am a person whose passion defines them. I have repeatedly stayed awake until three in the morning researching the implications of my particular personality type. After I first learned to play the viola, I insisted on practicing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" on the drive home from school despite the incessant protests from my father in the background. I repeatedly screeched out the same five notes for hours a day and eventually became the best and favourite student of the class. I am always the superlative and will stop at nothing to achieve my goals. Whatever my goals may be, the thought of them infects and consumes me until I reach them. I can only coast by on pure talent for so long and, ultimately, it is my passion and dedication that allow me to achieve anything. Section 2 - Long Answer Response Even though language was created for the purpose of communication, it is truly such a poor medium for it; only a select few of us ever fully master the art. For the majority, our emotions are suppressed by the inadequacies of our limited dictionary. In contrast, virtually anyone can recognize the sentiment behind a piece of music within a matter of moments, because song is a universal means of communication. A song's meaning can be understood regardless of one's culture, tongue or level of education. Even without lyrics, music allows us to invoke an honest understanding of emotion with others, unlike the superficial one words create. Our bodies are very capable of experiencing senses beyond the five that language limits us to. Words create an imaginary atmosphere conducive to certain emotions, but can never directly generate them. There are no words actually capable of describing an emotion at its core. It is an impossible task to try to illuminate an emotion without either comparing it to another or involving the traditional senses. The fact that we teach children to differentiate various emotions using unrealistic facial sketches instead of words shows how flawed language truly is. Music possesses an elusive quality that allows us to convey the raw emotion words cannot. We will only ever feel connected with another if we mutually share our emotions. Music and song are the most powerful ways to achieve this bond, which is why "song" is the word most worthy of preservation. Section 3 - Long Answer Response Just as the sun's broken promise of warmth renders a tree catatonic in winter, betrayal threatens to shroud a friendship in confusion and anger. A call from a kindred spirit of mine in the fall revealed that she had a tryst with a boy that I myself was openly pining for. Feeling silly obsessing over a problem I viewed as frivolous, my mind retreated to a place where I could ignore all that had destroyed the trust I had with her and I feigned forgiveness. However much I tried to suppress it, my subconscious yearned for atonement; resentment plagued our every interaction. Our conversations soon deteriorated to the point of meaningless small talk, simply out of fear of offending one another. Desperately, I searched for a cure to the lack of trust that ailed our friendship, afraid that time would inevitably destroy us. Rather, time revealed itself as the only panacea. The rational part of my mind accepted the countless apologies given and, eager for renewal, it ignored my more fragile side. Like the obligatory but insincere apologies we gave as children, forcing my emotional self to resolve its issues was futile because genuine forgiveness cannot be achieved through reason alone or conjured up at will. While there will always be an indelible mark on our friendship, accepting our issues gave us a chance at a second spring. As frustrating as it may be, there are truly some things only time has the ability to heal. Eventually, it nurtured our friendship back to health. I dunno. Somebody with a supp I really disliked got in. So I really dunno what's going on over at mac. w/e. My entire school got rejected and my school is gifted. uOttawa 2016

Interesting idea, an extension of Orwellian ideas. Not everyone can make it guys. The admissions process can be unpredictable, so don't let it get you down too much. McMaster 2015 Bachelor of Health Science
